The National Library of Norway
The National Library of Norway has an online service which allows the public to search digitized databases of newspapers, magazines, books and other types of publication. However, due to copyright restrictions, access is limited to users with Norwegian IP addresses. But it’s possible for would-be users from abroad to apply for access, see the information on their website: https://www.nb.no/english/6056-2
Information which is not to be found anywhere else
The digitized databases of the National Library of Norway are both fun and easy to use. There you’ll find millions of books, newspapers, tv and radio recordings, and information which is not available in censuses or parish records.
A collection for posterity
The National Library is responsible for collecting and preserving copies of all publications in Norway, in accordance with the Legal Deposit Act. These are to be preserved for posterity.
All this material is accessible to the public in the reading rooms of the National Library in Oslo. Village histories (also known as bygdebooks), published genealogies and newspapers are of special interest to family historians.
