represents may whole Database on Paper.
But I am unable to find report who gives out all Data for all Persons stored

Re: How to make Books in FTM
The Complete Genealogy Reporter (http://www.tcgr.bufton.org) was created because
there appears to be no other program that is able to produce a complete
narrative GEDCOM report. It has a 30-day "try before you buy" evaluation
period.

declaimed the following in soc.genealogy.computing:
GEDCOM (GEnealogical Data COMmunication) is a format that was
designed to permit the transfer of certain core data between genealogy
programs. There is no such thing as a "narrative GEDCOM report". All
user readable reports, from any program, is the result of applying
transforms using certain rules and templates on a database which /may/
have been loaded from a GEDCOM file.
The discontinued Ultimate Family Tree did have a "family journal"
report, which automatically determined the end-of-line ancestors for
each line, then produced chapters based on a descendent report for each
such end-of-line person (it took some tricks to /avoid/ having
non-family roles -- like the priest at a wedding -- show up as a "family
member with a chapter to himself").
TMG requires some games with filters and flags to identify the
end-of-line ancestors, but once they have been flagged, one can have it
produce a descendent report starting with each flagged individual.
{However, TMG's report writer is not the smartest -- UFT did
multi-passes to work out cross links from marriages, so regardless of
the order the families are processed, the children of marriages would
show up under the chapter with the surname; TMG only does
back-references; regardless of surname, the children [and descent from
them] show up in the first chapter referencing the parents, even if that
means "female A" married "male X" -- all the "X" children are in the "A"
surname chapter.}

Instead of pushing another product why don't you try answering his
question about "How to make Books in FTM"?
Why can't people just answer a question as asked or if they do not
know do not reply to it or say "I do not know" instead of pushing
other things or products but not answering a question that was
asked?!?!?
These news groups are getting about useless as teats on a bull. A
person can not get a straight answer to a simple question anymore.
What if you went in a store to find out how something you brought
worked and the salesperson dragged out a bunch of other products and
told you to use them to do what you were trying to do with what you
had?? Hell why not just buy a separate prog to do trees and one for
charts and one for books etc etc etc. So what if you already have one
that is supposed to do all this but you just need some help figuring
it out.
Second thought - why the hell not ask in the news group where all
those moron are so helpful?!?!?!

Books are generally designed to start with one person and include all

FTM will produce either very nicely. In fact, that feature is why I

If the OP would more clearly state his need(s), I'm sure there are
many FTM users here who would be willing to help. In the meantime, if
he really needs to include everyone in the database, then he'll really
need another program, and recommendations for other software to use

FTM books are just a collection of the various reports already available
to users. As such, the book is not a lot of use, because it won't have
much form, and certainly not an index.
But you can use the proffered outputs to make a book.
Go back to the top(s) of your family lines, and select the
highest/oldest/patriarch in the tribe for each line. Make a "genealogy
report" (FTM's words) for he and his wife/partner, plus their children.
Just 2 generations. Get a copy of that, either from FTM or by
cutting/pasting to another application.
Repeat this on down the tree, 2 generations at a time. Add in the extra
notes/pics/diagrams you want, or remove things best not put into print.
Now, line up the generations, roughly by timeline. Cousins form a
"horizontal" line, second cousins...etc. Each line becomes a chapter in
your book.
For a time, the chapters kept getting exponentially bigger, but then
seemed to strike a balance as details of newer generations were not
available.
Now for an index.
In FTM, make a custom report, with one empty column at the right. Full
alpha list (include single+married names to taste) with some identifier
to help the reader - DOB, DOD, etc. Mine included places, too, and I
needed to turn it to landscape.
Use the empty column to index people to chapters (or pages, if you have
the patience). There is probably a better way of doing this (a word
processor?) but keep it simple, it makes things easier for the user.
For me, it turned out to be 250 pages. A reasonable size to handle. The
upside was that young and old could use it, no computer equipment
required. The downside was that it was out of date by the time the
printing was done. Ah well

Re: How to make Books in FTM
Hi Cheryl,
what I thought about as just I don't know how to do,
seems to be an inexistent function.
The Purpose of my question was,
to get an paper-based archive of all Data I put in the FTM-Database.
Because I want to have a copy of everything, beyond my direct relatives.
Unfortunately, FTM well known as very easy to use Software for reports,
doesn't show such function to have everything on Paper or File.
Btw. I didn't find such things like ALL-IN-ONE Reports in other Programs,
so it is still my preferred one.
I will try to export the Database as GEDCOM and import it to Program which
allows to produce a File of all Data.
Unfortunatley FTM does not export the pictures ( I expected to have a GEDCOM
File and a Folder with all Photos )
Does anybody know how to get the Pictures saved ?
While asking, let me brig in a further one.
To find who of my relatives is still alive ang get it on a report, I'd like
to find a function which works the following way. First give Person (i.e.
me) than find all ancestors in the Database and now now make a tree of all
descendants off all ancestors.
Does anyone know a program for this job ?

Re: How to make Books in FTM
The Complete Genealogy Reporter does what you need - it reports all
ancestors and descendents of ancestors for a specified "subject" individual.
Regarding FTM and picture images, it does not export this information to a
GEDCOM, as you have discovered. There are third-party products which will
import data directly from an FTM file - but I don't know if these will
import the pictures.

It you know of a program that is able to "do all this", please share the

That's still not everyone in the FTM database though, which is the original
question.
The closest thing I can think of is using the FTM Batch Print firstly to
print the data using the Family Group Sheet and then doing the Scrapbooks.
So something like (the exact menu items will vary depend on which version of
FTM you have -- mine is FTM 2005):
View > Reports > Family Group Sheets
File > Batch Print Family Group Sheet (and follow the dialogue boxes)
View > Individual Scrapbook
File > Batch Print Scrapbook (and follow the dialogue boxes)
Of course, you might want to set your printer to be a PDF writer, or else
you will sacrifice a lot of trees.

Actually, if you specify such, The Complete Genealogy Reporter will report
all extended relationships via marriages and adoptions, so everyone in the
database will be in the report unless they are completely disconnected from
the subject person. (The 2007 version, scheduled for release within four
weeks, will also optionally include additional report sections for
disconnected groups, thus reporting absolutely every individual in the
GEDCOM export from FTM, or any other program.)

FTM will produce either very nicely. In fact, that feature is why I
conitinued to use FTM for several years after I became thoroughly
disgusted with the way it kept source information.
If the OP would more clearly state his need(s), I'm sure there are
many FTM users here who would be willing to help. In the meantime, if
he really needs to include everyone in the database, then he'll really
need another program, and recommendations for other software to use
are really the most resonalbe advice he can expect.

recent updates have greatly improved handing of sources in FTM 2006
(using the web upgrade to get FTM 16 - single cd flat pack is best
value) FTM 16 has more slight improvements to source dialogue box
I never bother with books
but share my data on line via wc.rootsweb.com
(see side bar in my blogs for some links)
best FTM advice is in the help menu and the online knowledge base

Other than just saving each picture from FTM, I'd recommend using
RootsMagic to import your FTM data file. RM will read and convert the
*.FTW file, and extract the photos into a folder on your hard drive.
You can then export a GEDCOM from RM, and find the photos linked from
the GEDCOM, which looks like what you want to achieve.
For your other question, a report that shows all descendants of all
ancestors.... I don't know of any program that does that, but FTM's
all-in-one tree comes pretty close.... but it's a chart not a report.

I will try to export the Database as GEDCOM and import it to Program which
allows to produce a File of all Data.
Unfortunatley FTM does not export the pictures ( I expected to have a GEDCOM
File and a Folder with all Photos )
Does anybody know how to get the Pictures saved ?

cross-references to (otherwise) repeated data when marriages occur. The
tricky part was getting UFT to /ignore/ people ("witnesses" like the
priest from a wedding. UFT would merrily create a one page surname

With The Master Genealogist, one has to first run a series of
filters to set an "EOL" flag (quick&dirty -- set the flag on any person
that has no father and no mother); THEN run a descendant journal report
specifying that starting individuals are those with the flag set (IOW,
TMG is running a set of reports)... TMG's cross-referencing, however, is
not the nicest -- it does not do forward references (you never see: ...
continued in XYZ when XYZ is a later chapter)... as a result, you
often get marriage lines continuing in the mothers surname line.

"All Connectable Individuals" is a somewhat different

Small database chosen:
1222 individuals, 380 marriages.
Analysis says: Individual I62 (xxxx mmm Sssss):
Could not reliably interpret date - "JAN"
It will be reported as: dated 'JAN'.
Family F23 contains one child but no parents.
Family F24 contains one child but no parents.

1. DIRECT RELATIONS.
1. DIRECT RELATIONS

IMO there should be an option that would allow me to
have "all connected ancestors" -- the Ancestors Only option
omitted the (**) children.
So far, it is _more_ inclusive than PAF's or GenBook's
output, but it still isn't _ALL_ inclusive.
Meanwhile, having (Conrad's five-times-great-grandaughter)
or (Conrad's great-great-great-grandson) or (Conrad's
son-in-law) or (Conrad's grandson by marriage) print out
for EACH of (1222-559) persons is a bit much to expect
anyone to read, including the proof-reader and you could
wear out a perfectly good mouse deleting it. (g)
