Potential connections: Kristoffer Trondson Rustung & Royalty

Legg inn av Curt Nilsen » 16. juli 2005 kl. 7.26

Greetings Newsgroup,

Below are some potential lineages from Kristoffer Trondson Rustung
(1490-1565) and his wife, Karina Knutsdatter Schancke (1495-1578) to
European royalty. Kristoffer was a noted admiral in Norway, and led a
very interesting life.

Comments on the plausibility of these lines are solicited, especially
on lines 1-4.

Line 5 (connecting the Schanke family to the Kings of the Isle of Man)
has already been discussed somewhat (the author GVC
Young makes this connection, but does not provide proof for his
claims). However, any additional thoughts on plausibility would be
welcome.

Thanks

Curt Nilsen

*** LINE 1 *** Kristoffer to King Håkon V Magnusson of Norway

As far as I can tell, the ancestors of Trond Sigurdsson are not well
documented. However, it's my understanding that the several
generations that connect Trond Sigurdsson to Agnes Sigurdsdatter is
based on the theory of historian Rolf Scheen who in 1942 wrote a book
on Kristoffer Trondson and his family ("Sjørøver og Admiral en bok om
Christoffer Trundssen (Rustung)" ).

Hallsten's lineage to the Isle of Man kings is based on research by GVC
Young and his book "The History of the Isle of Man under the Norse, or
Now Through A Glass Darkly" (See genealogical table on p. 203). A
factor in Young's conclusion that Hallstein descended from the Isle of
Man Kings may come from the Royal Isle of Man seal used by Hallstein in
1303 (as recorded in the Diplomaticum Norvegicum.) More information
regarding Karina and her family can be found in: Roger de Robelin's
book "Skanke ätten,"
