IGI Unique Identifier

Legg inn av Sam Dellit » 14. mai 2005 kl. 1.53

g'day to all on the list

i wish to cross reference all the dellit / dellith
entries in the IGI against my one name study
of the same. there are some 1000+ entries
and i am looking for a unique identifier for
each igi entry to use as the cross reference.

i am aware of the ancestral file number "AFN"
for entries in Ancestral File and also CD# plus
PIN# provides the same functionality for the
Pedigree Resource File, but i cannot see
anything equivalent for the IGI, at least the
online version of it. Am I missing something?
obviously the LDS IGI database data would have
it's own internal keys, but there does not seem to
be any way of accessing them online.

i had thought of using the primary event date as
the identifier with a supplementary number for rare
instances of several events with the same dates,
but there are so many duplicate events registered
that this becomes very clumsy

i presume each igi registered event has an LDS
ordinance number, which i am sure would be
unique and i seem to recall that these numbers
were given on the fiche version years ago. but
the ordinance numbers are at least hidden on the
public website. is there a mirror website where
lds members have access to lds ordinance numbers?

i have also posted this message to soc.gen.britain
and soc.gen.methods

TIA, all thoughts welcome
