Ancestry confusion
Ok, so I must have been in a coma, but suddenly I can't get to ANY of the
information on Ancestry from the home page. I mean, nada, except names, and
I can't even tell anything from the names except that they are, well, names.

No idea. I was just there, and had no problem pulling up information on my

Re: Ancestry confusion
I was just after the free stuff that they've always made available, but now,
it told me that I had to subscribe to get the simplest information, such as
clicking on a name that may or may not be in my line.
Obviously I should have made myself more clear. My apologies. Blame it on
that coma.
Right now, I don't have the time to use $200 worth of subscription costs,
but I found a lot online in the last few years before I started working
full-time. I live 60 miles from a library with the Ancestry subscription
and an LDS library, and now I can't get there when they are open. My
concern was that if Ancestry had taken their ball and bat and gone home, I'm
out of the game.

I get bupkis, except some of the 1880 census.
I should have sent off the $35 to the Godfrey by now. Silly me.

perhaps have an expired 14 day trial version?

Not unless I'm dumber than I thought. Haven't signed up. If I was going to
take the 14 day trial, I'd have to take vacation days to get through all the
questions I have!
If you have a subscription, you won't be able to see where I'm having a
problem.
From the beginning with my father's line, there has been a problem because
LDS posted wrong information on a ggggmother's name and info, which affects
the ggggfather's info, of course. Thanks to that, several people have
posted using that mythological woman, and haven't been able to go farther
back in the line (since it's not only a dead end, but a goose chase). Since
I found the proper information and proof of the proper name and lineage,
I've been trying to contact those with the improper lineage information.
So, technically, If I signed up now, it would be like paying $200 to tell
other people what to do (which would be: "Get Proof!").
All I wanted was the stuff that was, just a few months ago, free access.

I think it's been like this for about a year now.
Hope this helps!

Sure he could - delete the Ancestry cookies and just don't log in.
Unfortunately, once the info gets to LDS or Ancestry, it appears to be
impossible to change it. The attempt to change it is the worst goose
chanse of all. Any internet source, most individual sources and many
books should show as the first line - "Let the Buyer Beware".
Free access on internet is the current day version of Hansel and
Gretel - offer the kids cookies! Well, maybe not EVERY one.

Has it been that long since I played with this stuff? Wow. Sure glad I'm
not starting from scratch right now. I'd have quit right away. That
..../awt/main/htm appears to be what I was talking about. Couldn't find it
at all. Recently found a differing spelling of the ggggf's name and though
I'd try to chase that down.
Thanks for the tracer. I'll bookmark the new direction.

Well, that's an appropriate analogy. It feels a bit like the old "bait and

neighborhood drug dealer.
Cause man, this stuff can be addicting.

No personal interest, just that discussion has brought up the information
that the Godfrey Library http://www.godfrey.org/ accepts subscriptions to
its online resources. Since neither of the two libraries (including the one
I work in) near by have genealogical resources online, I can't just pop down
to the PL and search for an hour of a Saturday morning.
