Dette er bestefars halvsøster. Hun er født som: Berthe 4 februar- døpt 16 juni 1872 - konfirmert 16 oktober 1887 i Åmot- Hedmark. Hun var datter av Ole Bremersen (min oldefar) f. 19.02 1849 og Pige Oline Olsdatter Klokkerstuen, f. 1852
Hun er meldt som utflyttet til Amerika i 1892. Og i registeret er hun ført med navnet: Berthe Olsdatter Ulvåen (Ulvaaen)
Det er alt jeg vet, og er det mulig å finne henne i Amerika og finne ut om hun stiftet familie etc.
Det er så fint å ha tatt opp igjen letingen etter min familie, etter at det har ligget brakk i flere år, mye fordi jeg ikke kom videre...men nå får vi se hvordan dette går...

I have checked the records I can think of. She has a common surname, Olson/Olsdatter/Olsen. I found nothing under Ulvaen/Ulven etc.

There must be somwhere there is possible to find Berthe. I checked again and the only information is what I found in Norway... her name is Berte Olsdatter Ulvåen (Ulvaaen) born 04.02 1872 in Åmot- baptised 16.06 1872. Left for America in 1892.

Hi... it seems this is wrong. Yesterday I took contact with fergus fals authorities and got the obituaries for Bertha and Severin Berger. Ther was Bertha mentiond as Mathson ( Mathiesen and had a brother Ole. What seems to be interesting is for this Bertha Olson the father and mother is correct. How can we find the right lead here?

Can you tell us more of what was in the obit for Bertha (from Fergus Falls authorities)
Like what did they say the name of her mother and father was.
Sometimes there is wrong info...in death certificates, obits etc. So this family may
still be the right one.

Also...it would be interesting to find Bertha and Severin Berger in the 1910 census (Fergus Falls).
and maybe the 1920, 1930 censuses?
FamilySeaarch is offline for searches just now...so I can not search.

I wonder what the marriage records for the daughters of Bertha and Severin would show...perhaps their daughters married in Fergus Falls?

Then there is a Ole Mathison age 41 (b. Norway) hired man for Jens Berger.

Could this Selma be the daughter of Severin and your Bertha Olson?

I went into your link- yeah my password functioned- and I was wondering who was the parents of Severin .On the link you gave me I find Selma B but parents is not Severin and Bertha, maybe something has happendwith them? Or could Bertha be dead just after her birth?
If it is the right Bertha tht is mentioned in this thread, they had children, how can I find them and their ancestors?

Can you find Jens Peter Berger (f Dec 21, 1861) with his father Peter Jensen Berger in the
1865 Norwegian census? (in Aamot?)

I'll take another looks at Severin and Bertha's daughters...
I really wonder about the FS info about Selma Berger. listed in the family tree of Jens Berger...it says Selma died in Queens, New York (SSDI) ...that seems odd to me!

Correct and they are in the "folketelling" 1865 of Aamot in Østerdalen there were two children_ Jens Pedersen b. 1861 and Ole Pedersen b. 1863
They lived at Hoelseth Nordre in Aamot- Østerdalen

Now it seems that we have found the right Bertha- my grandfathers "half" sister. Still there is a question mark when her husband Severin Berger (Syver Berge) is born? We know the Berger family is from Åmot/ Aamot in Østerdalen. It seems that they had 4 daughters:

There was one possible Bertha Berger ...died 1906 (just says age 40)...that may be

I am trying to understand the "Mathison" name. (=son of Mathias?)

Ole Mathison is totaly unknown for me and the family, she had one brother here in Norway and that wsa Ole Olsen- Bremersen- I dont have any idea of who this Ole is. Is it possible to find out?And it was due to this Ole I started to doubt that it was the right Bertha, my relative:

God morgen Astrid, det er ingen kritikk jeg er bare så redd for at det ikke kommer rett opplysninger, inklusive det jeg sjøl legger ut. Jeg er imponert over hva du og alle andre har vært behjelpelige med. Evig takknemmelig.
Det er denne Ole Mathisen/ Mathison som gjorde at jeg ble i stuss om det var rett Bertha Oldatter som var funnet. Kanskje Ole Matisen finnes i kirkebok for Åmot. Det får bli dagens leteaksjon.

Dette er da helt utrolig, nå kommer vi stadig nærmere og nærmere til å få ett bilde av familien.
Pigen Oline Olsdatter hadde da to barn, ett med min oldefar (Bertha f. 1872) og nå Ole f. 1869 med Mathias Kristensen i Nordre Osen. Hvem vet kanskje Oline hadde flere barn? Historie er spennende og dere er med på å gjøre denne historien spennende for meg. Takk.

Thank you all, I am getting happy for all the knowledge. And especially to know that it went well with the children og Berthe and Severin since they all were adopted. So far we know a lot of Ole Henrys history, he got children and grandchildren. Selma we know a little. She was adoptet to Jens Berger a relative to Severin.

I am not sure what family he is living with. The previous image (image # 6), at the bottom gives
the names of Otto "Glorningen" age 32, and his wife Lila.

I was just a bit confused why the 2 boys (Ole and Henry) were not with Severin and Bertha
in the 1905 MN census.

Hei Patty. The boys were probably adopted. In one of the news articles it was mentioned that Henry was given to a Cora.... by the mother Berthe. In the same article it was mentioned to whom they were adopted.

Does that obit say Bertha gave Henry to Dora Olson in Henning?

Hi Patty, sorry for beeing unclear the "article" is the Obit. And Henry was given to Cora ( not Dora) Olson. At first she gave him to the Pederson family at Olmstedt farm. She regretted and too him back. Bertha gave her the child two months before she died. The letters at that time was "gothic". I learned it from my mother and grandmother so I have no problem by reading.
I am so thankful for all the help. I have been searching for this family line in many years. Probably that is why I want to find them all.

This morning I got this answer from Otter Tail Historic Society

I have access to some materials remotely. At the time of Bertha's death they had six children. It looks like the only child to die in the area was their son, Ole. What follows is what I could provide now from home:
Obituary for Severin Berger lists only five surviving children.
Obituary for Bertha Berger
Obituary for Ole Berger (their son) and his wife's obituary
Funeral Memorial Program for Ole Berger
Photo of tombstone for Ole Berger and his wife and name of cemetery buried in.
Additional materials if you decide you want to branch out your search into extended family members.
I could also check the Minnesota Marriage Index for marriages of children. This resource would give you the name of who they married, the marriage date and the county they were married in.

As we see here in the Obit for Severin there is 5 surviving children. Due to you all have found it seems to be Henry Oliver that has past away early. There is family after Ole Bernhard.
