FTM 05, is there a way?

The 'Privatise' feature in FTM 05 removes personal details of living persons
but not their names prior to creating a gedcom file.
Is there a way of removing all the living persons names before creating a
gedcom file without removing them manually.
My concern is that banks ask for your mothers maiden name as a extra
security feature when applying for credit/debit cards.
If a gedcom file is on a website then the maiden names are easily available
to fraudsters. The name of your first school would be a better option.

I haven't used them in a while, but I seem to recall that there were
several utilities which would do this. Do a web search for something
like 'gedcom utilities', 'gedcom living' or 'gedcom privacy' and you
should find what you're looking for.

Try Res Privata. It's free for students and individuals I believe. I
have used this exclusively for several years with no problem. I don't
"privatize" my exported GED from FTW. I run the GED through Ras
Privata. It only takes a few seconds for my 9000+ file. Then my web
page creation program also scans for issues. Both have multiple
settings.

The latest version is at http://www.users.bigpond.com/naibor/rpriv.html

Thank you Dan,

I have downloaded 'Res Privata' in readiness for updating.

Thanks,

Bill

I'm curious - has anyone in the genealogy community ever heard of such
a thing (the 'mining' of family history web sites for fraudulent gain)
actually happening? I ask because I use GedPrivy97 to remove dates,
but do post names. Only one relative has expressed concern, but she
never heard of a family history web site being "mined" for 'mother's
maiden names' either.

Caution (good web hygiene?) is a wise thing, but not including the
names of living family would render my web offerings useless, and I
would never have been contacted by more than a dozen very distant
relatives.

If a gedcom file is on a website then the maiden names are easily available
to fraudsters. The name of your first school would be a better option.

Or the name of your first dog, or favorite flower - anything but
your mother's maiden name!

This is why I upload my GEDCOM to Rootsweb's Worldconnect vs other
sites or making my own. I don't have to do anything to my GEDCOM but
Rootsweb will filter out the information; you also have additional
controls so that you can exclude entire branches if you like.

The additional plus is that your GEDCOM is placed onto a server with
many many other GEDCOMs that can be jointly searched. I have found
numerable connections as a result.

See http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com for more info.
