open format for geneaological data?

Legg inn av Yef » 15. mars 2005 kl. 20.11

Hi all,

This is probably a FAQ, but anyway...

Is there an open file format for geneaological data yet?
I am imagining something XML based, since that is easiest
for programs to deal with.

Thanks.

Ah, I thought it was just me seeing that. But, cut Steve some slack,
sometimes tools go stupid, sometimes servers do.

I understand that mechanical difficulties are often the
cause of repeated postings. I was just asking a question in
order to alert Steve that a problem exists. It was _not_
intended as a flame. (Maybe I shouldn't have put the
underscores around "more". Sorry.)

It appears to be something a news-server between Steve's desk and the
rest of the world is doing. Apparently, the server thinks it cancelled
the outgoing so it resends it then thinks it cancelled the outgoing and
resends ... They have been alerted by the man (Don Aiken) who figured it
out.

Direct all complaints to [email protected]

According to the headers of the repost mesages, the problem appears to be with
mindspring.com.

At fist I suspected my server, but it appears that mindspring.com is
responsible, unles those messages are forgeries.

Which header? I've looked at them and don't see a "mindspring"

in any of the duplicates I've looked at. And I'm ON an Earthlink server
(Earthlink has owned Mindspring for some years, since about a year after
Mindspring bought up Netcom).

I must have been blind last night -- I'd have sworn I didn't see
anything with "mindspring" in them...

Strange, since with all the mergers, the server is
news.west.earthlink.net (or .east.) -- they took down the old servers
from netcom/mindspring days, so why would the reposting be performed as
a mindspring admin account and not an earthlink admin.

I could almost visualize some cracker sending random cancels (I
have seen one or two other "repost:" subjects elsewhere) which are being
caught after the fact...

Ah well, my apologies for my initial "tone-of-voice" (I really
need to do the news scan earlier in the evening)
