Hei ~
I would like to search by selecting both keywords and a forum or forums to search in.
Is that possible?
For example, I would like to search for Eli Larsdtr in only the Stange forum (Hedmark fylke). When I do the search, I get 370+ results from many different forum, which is time consuming to sort through.
Takk - De kan skrive på norsk.

Is it possible to limit the forums in which one searches?

Re: Is it possible to limit the forums in which one searches
No problem!
You may want to use the Search Options => Forum : click the drop-down list to select Stange under Hedmark.
Also suggest you fill out the Search Query useing wild-cards, i.e. "el* AND Larsd*"
This resulted in 35 hits - all in the Stange Forum.
A additional lookup would be to leave the Search Options => Form unchanged and put "Stange" in the Search Query! - i.e. "el* AND Larsd* and Stange"
This resulted in 36 hits - many from other forums than the Stange Forum!!!
Reason for this: You get a system-wide hit result, but some from the Stange Forum is missing - due to the fact that they did not explicit mention "Stange" in the topic title or the message text. (But they were listed in the first search mentioned above
So, to cover more ground: use both search techniques.
Good Luck!

Hei Tore ~
Thanks for this answer, but how does one find the Slektsforum Forum Index?
I have been using the Søk button on the top side of the pages, which is the only search mechanism that I was aware of.
Takk!

That is the dialog you get to by clicking the Søk buttoon.
It is a dropdown list (very long) where all (sub)sections are available for narrowing down your search, including Hedmark/Stange.
However, while searching for Mia Larsdtr may give some results, by default the setting on the right side says to search for any of the given words (OR). The radio box below is for using AND search. But Larsdatter, Larsdotter, Larsdtr, Larsd may be all be used. Apart from that there will most likely be quite a few with the same surname/patronym in that area. If you have a farm name you're much more likely to get relevant hits.
Re: Is it possible to limit the forums in which one searches
Thanks Bjørn Kåre (and Tore) !
I found out part of my problem. I was signing in to the main page under my paid membership, but to the forums under my guest membership, and a different search form is provided than what was shown in Tore's response. See the top half of the attachment for the search form that guests obtain.
When I signed into the forums through my paid membership, then the form shown by Tore comes up, but in Norwegian. See the bottom half of the attachment.
How does one go about switching to English for this form? I switched to English on the main page, but it does not carry through to the forums.
Takk,
John
PS ~ even in the guest form, the use of el* AND Larsdtr* AND Stange works to limit the search to the Stange forum.

Keep in mind that this website was developed quite a few years ago. Design & Technology at that time does not all meet users expectations of today.

When signed on, go edit your Profile and change language to English. Remember to save changes. Go to "Hovedsiden" and check if flags for English and Norwegian shows.
They are a bit tricky, not working all time as expected. Also seems software need some seconds to switch between the languages. Those flags should also show up on the search page, I guess.

Are you sure? Could it be that you search keys limit the hitlist to messages found only in the Stange forum?
Please try to use the following search: El* AND Larsd* AND Stange
