For those of you who want to create an album of all or some of your
graphics, have a look at PICASA from Google. Version 2 has just been
released, and its quite a bit of gear! The download is about 3Mb.

You can include or exclude, add names, labels, keywords and captions -
all searchable, so you can search for and find that elusive pic of
Auntie Elsie.

Picasa2 is great in some respects, BUT.....

after it creates a list of all the "folders on disk" that hold images,
it lists them all on the left, but with NO INFORMATION ABOUT WERE THEY
ARE ON YOUR HARD DRIVE!! Even a "right click" and selecting "locate
on disk" presents a popup explorer window with either thumbnails or
details, but NO information about where the folder is!

So, if you have invested time already in any sort of hierarchical and
logical scheme for sorting your pictures, it is rendered useless
within Picasa2.

Example: you have two folders -

d:\graphics\photos03\garden
d:\graphics\photos04\garden

Picasa only lists two 'garden' folders with no information about which
one is which. In order to determine a photos location, one has to
right click on a photo and select "Properties".

Yes, you can go back and rename every folder on your computer to have
a unique name - but programs like Picasa are supposed to 'serve us',
not create more work. Too bad, because it's great in many other
aspects.

This depends on how Explorer is set up, as indicated by your reply. If
you have "details" selected, the file itself will highlighted in the
main window, and the full path to the folder will be in the address line
above. Couldn't be clearer than that :-)
