Matrikkelforarbeidet 1723

Hello,

I hope you can help me figure out what Matrikkelforarbeidet 1723 is. Google Translate does not translate very well, and I cannot read what Digitalarkivet says about it.

http://arkivverket.no/eng/content/view/full/8575

I have an ancestor that was born in 1703, which was before the local parish records started in Aurland, Sogn og Fjordane. I am looking for sources that may help me find the parents of my 5th great grandfather, Knut Sjursen. I made another post here on DIS-Norge asking for help on this same ancestor a couple of years ago. I hope that Matrikkelforarbeidet 1723 provides new information that can help me find the parents for Knut Sjursen (1703-1781).

Aurland is included in the Ytre Sogn section of Matrikkelforarbeidet 1723: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:db_read/db/39186/

The baptism record for the birth of Knut Sjursen's first child, Ingeborg, says that he was from Li and Fretheim. His brother Lasse (1702-1784) was the farmer at Li starting around 1728. Knut was later the farmer at Terum from about 1740 to his death in 1781. When Knut's brother Lasse got married in 1728, the record said he came from Berekvam.

So, I am interested to see if Matrikkelforarbeidet 1723 says anything about Li, Fretheim, Terum, and Berekvam.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

The matrikkel 1723 was a proposal that never was approved. The link is to the proposed registry. The proposal was mainly on the taxes; in some cases re-evaluation of the property).

A "Matrikkel" is a farm registry; with value, taxes, some related benefits, etc.
It lists the holders, but the people living there is not the main information.

There is also an "examination protocol", which was made to collect the necessary data. This also specifies who owned the land, and who had the right to rent it.

No.10 "Tærum" is here http://arkivverket.no/URN:db_read/db/39186/8/
Holders: Tosten, Iver og Peder, Helgie

No. 25 Yttrelie: http://arkivverket.no/URN:db_read/db/39186/15/ (and next page)
Holders : Elling, Karl, Olle Olsen, Ingebrigt, Lars

No. 29 Frettem http://arkivverket.no/URN:db_read/db/39186/18/
Holders: Johannes, Lars, Tosten

No. 31 Indrelie: http://arkivverket.no/URN:db_read/db/39186/21/
Holders: Helge, Joen, Niels

No. 37 Bereqvam: http://arkivverket.no/URN:db_read/db/39186/23/
Holders: Olle, Olle Andersen

The examination is here http://arkivverket.no/URN:db_read/db/39184/204/
The farms have the same numbers and the same holders, with slightly different spelling in some cases. At Berekvam, the 2nd Ole is called "Olle gl:" (Olle the elder; which simply means that he is older than the other one).

In short, you can not say for sure that any of your folks are mentioned. Lars (Lasse) at Fretheim is a possibility, but the name Lars/Lasse (different form of the same name) was very frequent at the time. If your Lasse came there i 1728, this is another one.
