Greetings from Brisbane Australia
Am posting an enquiry re my grandparents Georg (birth year?1883) & Aagot (nee Anderson) born 1886 who migrated from Norway to New Zealand in 1911 with 1 yr old son, Knut.
- What access is available to birth/deaths/marriage?
- Am interested in accessing passenger lists if possible
- Georg was a sportsman in track & field events & was a member of KIF (Olso Sports Association).
- Georg also was involved in the war with Sweden around 1901
If anyone can help me with access of information for any of the above I would greatly appreciate assistance.
regards
Marg van Rensburg (nee Bank)

Re: re:Georg & Aagot Anderson
I searched the database "Emigrants from Christiania (Oslo)" and found this family that may be the one you are looking for http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/we ... 18573#ovre
Their residence was Welhavens gt (street), which means they lived in Oslo at the time of emigration.

Margaret Van Rensburg skrev:Thank you for the responses.....My picture is growing and can put a little meat on the bone of information I have. I now have Bank family information with 3 differing census years, an emigration list of my grandparents departure for NZ. My question is ~ is there any other information available that could be useful from the National Archives. I am sure if I spoke Norwegian I would be much more self sufficient in my knowledge quest. Thanking you

Marg, it depends on what information you are looking for. You have got the Bank line back to Germany, but are you looking for more information about Aagot Anderson or Sofie Bank and their ancestors?

Hei Vidar,
I thought I had replied last night, but checking this morning there was no entry from 'moi'. Thank you for your response. i have gained valuable information from the census from both sides of my family (Bank & Andersen ~ both turning out to be new immigrants to Norway.) However I would like to find out about their lives. Georg Bank was in the army around 1900. At the time there were apparently some threatened skirmishes with your neighbour Sweden. My question is, is there possible access to military records that I can access. My father has Norwegian army weaponry which of course has created intrigue.

Re: Georg & Aagot Anderson
Hei Marg,
Yes, there was a conflict with Sweeden that peaked in 1905, 100 years ago. You can find a brief summary of the situation in The history of Norway. However, I am not familiar with military records from 1905, but assume that The National Archival Services of Norway will be able to assist you. Another alternative could be to contact The Norwegian Armed Forces Museum.
