Alendel

Hello!

I am looking for the birth of:

Axel Wilhelm Berntsen, born 19 Jan 1883 in Norway.

His parents were Bernt (or Berent) Johan Eriksen and Marie Elisabeth Andersen (Andersdatter?).

The 1920 and 1930 census for Brooklyn, New York, both say he arrived in America in 1910.

His WWII draft registration says he was born in "Alendel, Norway".

I can not find him in "Alendal" in Rogaland, so don't know what is meant with "Alendel".

The original name may have been Arendal. And there are (at least) two places with that name:

1. The town of Arendal in Aust-Agder fylke.
2. The parish of Arnadal (formerly Arendal) in Stokke kommune, Vestfold fylke.

Thank you for your message. I did check the birth records in Arendal, but could not find him. Now I also checked Stokke, but no luck.

Maybe it is the farmname (Gard) Alendal in Skjold, Rogaland?

Looks like the farm (place) is now called "Alnedal" or "Anndal", you find it on the map, near Skjold in Vindafjord administrative district.

But I did not find his relatives in the records for Alendal 1875, 1900, 1910

In the 1900 census there is a family where the father is Bernt, the mother is Marie and the son is Axel, born 1883. It is said that Axel is born in Bærum, Akershus.

It might be worthwhile to have a closer look at these ones, at least in order to eliminate them if they are the wrong family.

Det kan nok ikke stemme, for Aksel født i Bærum har Bernt Fredriksen og Anne Helene Mortensen som foreldre:
