Ron Lyse, 69, volunteer extraordinaire, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 in Lacey, Washington. His friendship and contributions to our community will be dearly missed. Ron was born December 11, 1940, in Minneapolis, MN, and was the youngest of four children of the late Carl and Ida Lyse. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Carl D. Lyse, and sister Dona Arganda.
Ron took tremendous pride in his wife Ann and their two sons, David and Ronald Jon. Ron and Ann met through the Junior League of Duluth, MN, and married October 16, 1965. They struck out for sunny California in 1967. Ron enjoyed countless hours with his sons as an assistant Scout Master of Boy Scouts and Little League baseball coach. He made a difference by helping youth build important life skills.
Ron retired in 1995 from 17 years with the California Long Beach School District, then worked in building maintenance positions for American Building Maintenance and Panorama Convalescent Center in Washington. Ron was a member of the Lacey Mid-Day Lions Club.
Over the past 25 years, Ron contributed to myriad volunteer services, which included Long Beach Memorial Hospital (California), Providence St. Peter Hospital (Olympia), Panorama Convalescent Center (Lacey), and Senior Services for South Sound (Olympia). Initially serving as a volunteer for Senior Services, he later became the transportation coordinator. Seniors were touched by the care and concern that he showed them. He often went beyond the call of duty.
Ron knew challenges and discomforts living with diabetes, often showing a type of grace that others admired. Ron lived his life fully and independently, preferring to share what he enjoyed, help anyone in need, and keep a low profile on personal discomforts. Ron touched many lives. We will miss the presence of the tall man wearing a stocking cap.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Ann Lyse; sons David (Paula) Lyse of Lacey, Ronald Jon Lyse of Long Beach, California, brother Kenneth Lyse of Lacey, grandchildren Tracie, Dayna, Kevin, great grandson Anthony, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial will be held 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 2010, in the Lacey Senior Center, 6757 Pacific Ave SE, Lacey WA, 98503. Donations may be made to Senior Services for South Sound, 222 Columbia St NW, Olympia, WA 98501. Arrangements and private interment are by Woodlawn Funeral Home Cemetery.
