Re: Inger Sorlien about 1842 born?
Hi,
I think the Inger Sorlien you are looking for are Inger Hansdr, from Bjørnslien / Sørlien in Nordsinni, Nordre Land. See attached Family Group Sheet.
She was born April 13 1842, christned May 8th. Married to Kristoffer Olsen April 8, 1865, listed at Bjørnslien in the census same year.
They emigrated to the US in 1867, and lived in Bode, Iowa. She gave birth to 7 children there.
Her parents emigrated in 1870.
Regards,
Dag Gurihus

Thanks for the information.
Yes, that'd be the one that went to Bode Iowa.
Where did you get that Family Group Sheet?
Do you have information on the parents more?
Thanks, Joe.
p.s. What's the story on why so many people out of Dokka ended up around Bode Iowa area? Do you know?

Re: Inger Sorlien about 1842 born?
Hi,
Attached is a family grup sheet of Inger Hansdrs parents. Her father got one son out of wedlock with Marte Andersdr before marrying Ingeborg.
All the children of Hans and Ingeborg emigrated to the US;
Hans Andreas, in 1866
Inger, in 1867
Olave, on June 11, 1869 with the ship Oder from Kristiania (Oslo)
Anton and Johan, on May 20, 1870 with the ship Hero from Kristiania
The family group sheets are from my own research. Distantly related to
Inger myself.

Re: Inger Sorlien about 1842 born?
Hi,
On the question of how there seems to be som many from around Dokka who settled around Bode, Iowa, the "Boka om Land", volume 4, subtitled "The emigration to America" gives some clues.

"Sometime in the end of the 1860ies, the brothers Torkild and Christian Rossing came to this part of Iowa. They settled in the area where the city Bode was incorporated around 1880. Soon, the Rossing-brothers was accompanied by more Landings out here, especially many from Østsinni found themselves a home out here on the tree-less praire. When the railway was built through the area, the initiative captain T. Rossing arranged that a railwaystation was constructed. He built the citys first store building in 1882. This store was later taken over by three Kinseth-brother, sons of Lars Knudsen Kjendseth, who emigrated in 1878. Overall, there settled som many Landings in the area, that one gets the impressin that they dominated this settlement. Their biographies tells some of who they were, and give some foundation for the role theese Landings and their descendants have played in changing this part into one of the state of Iowas best farmlands"
