Ingvald Martinsen Sørmoen to Minnesota 1913

Ingvald Martinsen Sørmoen to Minnesota 1913
My dad's uncle, Ingvald Martinsen Sørmoen from Gran, born December 10, 1892 left Kristiania, Norway April 2, 1913. Destination: Wisconsin.
http://digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/webcen ... 15585#ovre
He probably got his ticket from his aunt Ingeborg Severson in Barron County, WI.
She came to Minnesota 1900 and was married to Simon B. Severson in the US.
Ingvald did not stay there long. He went to Canada for work in the forests winter 1913/1914. After that he worked as a conductor on local trains in Minneapolis.
He wanted to go to the military service, but I don't know if he did.
After a while got married. Is it possible to find the name of the bride and where she came from. Probably they did not have any kids. Ingvald also changed his name to Envald Mortenson, but I don't know when.
Later he lived as a car seller in Minneapolis. After some years he was married to Arlene Rasmussen and they got 2 kids. Ingvald died March 14, 1975 in Minneapolis. I know his kids well, but they don't know anything about his first marriage.
If somebody could help me, it would be great. Please write down where to find this inforamation on the web.
Thank you.

Hei Vigdis

Re: Ingvald Martinsen Sørmoen to Minnesota 1913
Hei
http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse. ... pl&indiv=1

Hei Even,
When searching for information, always think "Outside the Box". It is best to be flexible on spellings and use less when searching, like Eng* or Ing* Mort*

You have done a good job here, Margit.
Now, I have now also learned more about searching. I was not aware that it was possible to use wildchart * when searching.

Re: Ingvald Martinsen Sørmoen to Minnesota 1913
Thanks again Vigdis and Margit.
This is just fantastic. I'll visit Ingvald's daughter from his 2nd marriage in Duluth later this summer. She told me that he was married to a woman before her mother, but didn't know anything about his first marriage and who he was married to. Now I can tell her about this.
I can see out of the Census sheet that Ingvald was married first time when he was 34 or about 1928. Is it possible to find records about that?
He probably married his 2nd wife Arlene Rasmussen before their first child was born in November 1943.
Did Josephin Mortenson die or was she divorced from Ingvald?
Do you have census from every 10th year? Is it possible to find Ingvald in 1920?
Please tell me how to search.
Thanks.

Re: Ingvald Martinsen Sørmoen to Minnesota 1913
Even,
Do you have ancestry.com? I have tried every which way to search for him in 1920. I suspect he was up in Canada at that time. The child Kenneth was not his child, but his wife's child from another relationship. Perhaps he adopted him or Kenneth just used his name. I suspect that they got divorced. I think I find Josephine dying in Minnesota: (Obituaries would have to be checked before you can say this is your person for sure)
Maybe this one??

Re: Ingvald Martinsen Sørmoen to Minnesota 1913
Hi Margit
I don't know how to thank you for this.
Sorry, I,m not in ancestry.com yet. Maybe I'll have it later.
In the census you found for 1930 Kenneth is Ingvald's step son and Ingvald (36) was married to Josephine when he was 34. Her first marriage was when she was 21. The last record you found on her death should also be the correct year for her birth. In the census there is an H. after her first name and that might be H. for Hazel.
About the census for 1920. I don't think Ingvald was in Canada at that time. My feeling is that he worked in Canada the first winter he was in America 1913-14. We also have some photos taken in Minneapolis when he was very young, and he worked as a train conductor. In the census 1930 he is a "Salesman" of "Automobiles". That was also his profession for many years after 1930. We also heard that he wanted to go to the military service in the US probably before 1917, and he wrote home to his parents in Norway about that. He wanted their signature for accepting this, but they didn't want him to do it, and they didn't sign.
I don't know if he went to the service. Maybe he started as a conductor in Minneapolis intead. I don't know if he stayed with his aunt and uncle Ingeborg and Simon B. Severson in Cameron, WI either. I don't know when he changed his name from Ingvald Martinsen to Engvald Mortenson. Maybe he's registered under his original name in 1920?
Thanks for checking.
