Hans kone Marit (Rasmusdatter Dombu) Reitan Født 9. mars 1878 Hun emigrerte sammen med han, og det er ikke innført noen barn i emigrantprotokollen. Antakelig har de
fått 2 barn mellom 1903 og 1905 i USA. De het Ingeborg og Tora. Marit og døtrene dro hjem til Orkdal, og Marit fødte deres 3. barn der 20. november 1906.

Etter det familien har fortalt, ble Karl i Amerika og hans lovord om at familien skulle komme over igjen når han fikk bygget hus, ble aldri noe av.

Visstnok jobbet han som fisker der borte. Vet ikke hvor han bodde i USA. Familien har mistanke om at fant seg en annen dame der borte. Kona Marit døde i Meldal (Sør-Trondelag) 4. januar 1915, og døtrene ble satt bort i forsterhjem i Meldal og Rindal.

Her er det noe merkelig. Karl Reitan og hans kone Marit står på to passasjerlister, både på Celtic og Oseanic med to ulike avgangsdatoer og ankomstdatoer.

Celtic gikk fra Liverpool den 2. oktober og ankom New York 11. oktober 1903. Der står det at de skal til svigerinne Anna Dombu i Seattle.

Det samme paret står også på Oseanic's lise. Avgang fra Liverpool 7. oktober og anskomst 14. oktober, oppgitt at de skal til sin svoger Peter Dombu i Seattle.

Først lurte jeg på om det kunne være to forskjellige par, men ser at de er strøkne over på den første listen. Så da trekker jeg slutningen at de ankom 14. oktober og ikke 11. oktober. Rakk de ikke båten fra Liverpool den 2. oktober?

Det er nok riktig at Marits søster Anna (Ane) og bror Peter (Peder) Dombu var i Amerika da de reiste i 1903. Marit reiste over første gang i 1898 sammen med Ane, men Marit må ha dratt tilbake til Norge etter en stund. Ane har også reist hjem, for hun dro til Amerika på nytt fra Trondheim 7. mars 1911 under navnet Anna Rasmusd. Styrvold. Reisemålet var da Seattle, for der var hennes mann Ole E. Styrvold i Seattle-området.
Ane skal ha adoptert en sønn der borte som het Ingve og reist tilbake til Norge. Vet ikke hvor lenge de var der. Om Ole ble igjen der borte, vet jeg heller ikke. Om Ane og Ole hadde noe med Carl Reitan å gjøre der borte, er uvisst. Hadde vært kjempespennende å finne ut hva som skjedde med Carl.

Når jeg ser Washington State Archice nærmere i sømmene, så mangler det registre fra Seattle. Der var der de slo seg ned i starten. Det kan være derfor vi ikke får opp data for de to barna som angivelig skal være født der, Ingeborg og Tora. Det kan også være derfor vi ikke får opp noe mer på Carl og Marit. ¨

Yes, Marit was married to Carl just before they left Trondheim (Vor Frues kirke) September 22, 1903. Their daughter Ingeborg must have been born in America December 19, 1903 and the daughter Tora must have been born in America June 11, 1905. Marit and their 2 girls went back to Norway in 1906. When Marit came home, she found out that she was pregnant, and November 20, 1906 their third daughter Raghild Arntine was born in Orkdal. The 3 girls and Marit never saw their dad again. He was going to build a new house so the family could move to America again, but January 4, 1915 Marit died in Meldal, Norway. The 3 girls were split and grew up in 3 different homes here in Norway. We just want to find out what happened to Carl when he lived in America. Did he get a new wife and kids there? What happened to him? When and where did he die?
I don't know the different ways to find this information, so I would be very glad if you could help me

I have checked every place, including Canada, I can think for your Carl Reitan under many names. Did you check if he ever came back to Norway? I am not so sure that Charles Reitan in the 1910 census is the right person. It states that he is single in the census, but it may just be a mistake as he lived in a boarding house.

Is it possible to find out what happened with Carl Reitan later?
I can say for sure that he did not go back to Norway.
Somebody mentioned that he might have been killed when he was on a fishing boat, but I don't know anything more about that.
When his youngest daughter Ragnhild was confirmed in Rindal, Norway in 1921, the record says that he worked in a sawmill. That was his profession before he went to America. The record doen't say anything about if he was alive in 1921 or not.

I was at the library yesterday, so I used Ancestry to try and find some more info..
In the Washington state data base in Ancestry, there was a record of the birth of the oldest child, born december 19, 1903 in King county, WA. Parents: Karl Rietan (misspelled) age 29, and Mary Dumbo age 24. Karl is working as a laborer.
