I have done some research in the Fron area. I have a confirmation of Jacob Ilstadhage in 1822 in two parish records, Fron 1816-27 (Confirmand #10) and Sør-Fron i Fron 1816-43 (#10 as well).
I have been given information that he was born in Fron but I can't find his baptismal record. In the confirmation record it says he is 15 years old (~1807) BUT I noticed that most of the other confirmands have their birthdate given!~!!!!. I am now thinking that he was not born in the Fron area. There is writing in the Fodt column but I can't figure out what it says. I was wondering if anyone could try and decipher what it says.
Thanks, For any assistance that you can offer.

Oops, sorry for the double entry. I was also wondering if anyone could direct me to the correct scanned parish records for the Svatsum area for the 1890's. I am looking for the burials for Jacob's parents which were given to me as Knud Jacobsen 1895 and Marthe Pedersdatter, died 1894.
If anyone has any other information about the Brandebakken(Brændbakken in 1865 census; Smekop søndre in 1875 census) farm.
In the 1875 census it says he was born at Sødorps Sogn Nordre Froens Præst. in 1801????? In the 1865 census it says he was born at Frons Præstegjeld and is 57 years old (1808).
I hope this isn't more confusing.
Thanks,
David

Re: Ilstadhage(n)
Hi,
Please note that Fron was one parish until split in Nord Fron and Sør Fron in 1850. Fron had many churches, such as Sødorp and Sør Fron, (the Main church for Fron)
The Ministerial book for Fron before 1850 is the official book for the entire parish and the entries are made by the vicar himself.
The "Klokkerbok" is a register kept by the Sexton for each individual individual church. So the parish register for Sør Fron you are referring to is for Sør Fron church only.
I think you assumption that Jacob was born elsewhere then Fron may be right. The entries state that on his confirmation states that his father Knut is dead, and his mother is Anne, but we will need expert help from other participants to transcribe the remarks as they are illegible to me also.
Here are some possible candidates for Jacobs parents, but cannot substantiate this:
On march 25 1810 the death of Knut Jacobsen Ilstadhagen, 35 years is registered dead on March 25.1810(Candidate for father?)
on Oct. 1845 dies Anne Iversdatter Ilstadhagen, 78 years.
On Feb. 24 1811 dies Jacob Knudsen Ilstadhagen, 64 yearts old (grandfather? and
here is the family in census for Fron 1801 http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/we ... 2231#nedre
The wifes name differs, but this could be an error, year of birth
Please note this is theory only, I have no evidence to support this.

Re: Ilstadhage(n)
Ola, thank-you for your insights. These are names that I have as well. I'm wondering if there is a bygdebok for Fron? That might be of help.
For the life of me I can't find a baptismal record in Gausdal for Jacob. OF COURSE, I'm looking in the wrong area. Sheesh!! FROEN. I did work on this many years ago and forgot that the parish records before 1800 were lost in a fire, I believe.
Maybe a bygdebok is my best bet.
I will try to jog my memory a bit more!
Thanks again.

Re: Ilstadhage(n)
Could anyone tell/show me the parishes around Fron? I was thinking of checking them for a baptismal record for Jacob Knudsen.
In 1865 census of Gausdal shows he was born in Froen. In the 1875 census it shows Sødorps Sogn Nordre Froens Præst.
Doesn't bode well for other areas but willing to try.
Thanks for any assistance.
Anyone familiar with the parish records of Fron. Confirmand #10 in 1822 has comments in the Fod aar column which is undecipherable to me? Help?

Re: Ilstadhage(n)
There is a bygdebok for both Sor Fron and Nordfron describing the different farms. I will try to look up later to see if I can find anything about Ilstadhagen.
I hope that someone can assist in transcribing the remarks in the parish registry re jacob's confirmation, because it may say something about his birthplace.
I am not able to find Jacob's birth registered in 1805-1809 in any register from Fron.
Neighbouring parishes to Fron is Ringebu, Gausdal and Vaage.

Thanks Ola, for checking the baptismal records. No one has come forth to translate, unfortunately. I have enlarged the transcript to 150% and it makes no sense to me. Maybe I will look in Gausdal as that is where he ended up being married but of course his wife was from that area.
Thanks again.
