A royal ascent for John Trelawny, 1st Bart

Here at Leo's great website we see Elizabeth Killigrew, known mother
of John Trelawny, 1st Bart (born 1592, died 1664)

http://www.genealogics.org/getperson.ph ... 1&tree=LEO
showing no parents

Elizabeth Killigrew appears in the Vis Cornwall page 268 "Killigrew"
showing that she married three times, Sir Jonathan Trelawny was her
first husband, he died 21 Jun 1604

She then married Sir Thomas Reynell of Ogwell, Devon (can anyone
connect up his parents?)

She lastly married that Sir Nicholas Lower, Knt of Clifton who has
been such a matter of speculation as to his supposed Greek
"Paleologus" connection (google it!)

Elizabeth Killigrew died 6 Jun 1638 at Clifton and she has an MI at
Landulph Church as does Nicholas Lower who died 17 May 1655 s.p.

Although Nicholas died s.p. there are references to his "heiress" who
married Sir Adam Drummond and had a daughter "co-heiress to her
father" who married Charles Trevanion Esq of Caerhayes (died 26 Nov
1703)

I have not yet been able to figure out the first name of Charles wife,
nor have I been able to figure out just *who* this mysterious
"heiress" of Sir Nicholas Lower's was.

At any rate, Elizabeth Killigrew, by her M.I. was daughter of that
Sir Henry Killigrew who married Katherine Cooke "Youngest daughter" of
Anthony Cooke esq of Gidea Hall, Romford, Essex

This Katherine Cooke was the sister of that Mildred Cooke who married
William Cecil, 1st Baron Burghley

Thus John Trelawny, 1st Bart has a royal ascent in 14 steps to
John, King of Ireland in 1185, King of England from 1199

Here I mispoke. Leo does actually show her father as Sir Henry
Killigrew which is correct.

Sir Henry was "fourth son" possibly born at Arwennack. He died 1603
in London, he was knighted in 1591, MP of Truro; He was of Hanworth
and Laroch. He was also an Ambassador.

Sir Henry Killigrew has a DNB entry.

This thread, by the way, extends the ancestry for Prince Charles
through his mother Diana, Princess of Wales, shown by Leo. They
descend from this union of Henry Killigrew and Katherine Cooke.

For the answer to your question about the wife of Charles Trevanion of
Caerhayes and her relationship to Sir Nicholas Lower, see p. 300 of
Vivian's edition of the Visitations of Cornwall (cited in this
thread). [Charles' father-in-law was Sir Maurice, not Sir Adam]

Sir John may well be descended from King John, but he has a "better"
royal descent from a more recent king - Edward I - through both
parents of his father Sir Jonathan. You should be able to easily
trace these through Vivian also. Hint: both descents go via the
Courtenay family.
