Can someone direct me to the proper District and Sub-district. I can't seem
to find it. I thought it was in Joliette? I can't find that either.

Thanks,
Michelle

I think Ste-Melanie existed as a parish since 1832, but did not become a
municipality until 1861 and hence was not enumerated separately till then.

I am *so* glad you posed this question. It offers up a possible
reason why my g'g'father's third cousin (English, married Scottish,
emigrated to Canada, worked in Quebec) named a daughter Melanie - a
name of a type not used in the extended family before.

(I hasten to add that I'm not taking the reason as certain, since I
have no way of knowing. But it's more satisfactory to have a
possibility - not least because, apart from web-claims of Melanie's
descendants, I have no evidence that she was a child of the family..)

Ste. Melanie, in 1851, was in the town of D'Ailleboust. I found out
that these census records no longer exist.
