Hello - I am looking for a settlement called Moaks or Moax or similar
from about the 9th century. I beleive it's Norway or somewhere with
mountains on the ocean, like Orkney Islands or Shetland Islands maybe.
Any help appreciated!

It may be an area in Norway. Not an settlement. The name Møre (Moere ) is very old. It was the coast from Romsdal to Namsos who was called Møre. These days it is a smaller bit of the coast. The name came from mærr (maerr) who means land and merr who means ocean. The meaning is "The ocean land" In the viking age Møre was one of the most important senter of Norway. A lot of "royal blood" came from the area. And, yes.We have large mountains out from the sea :D
