Question about Family Tree Maker

Legg inn av Natty Dread » 6. oktober 2006 kl. 21.26

I had an older version of Family Tree Maker (don't know the edition, but I
think it was from 2004) and I've lost the install disks but I still have the
data files. Those include my actual family tree, and most importantly, all
the research I did on it! If I buy the current version, will I be able to
recover those files? Any info appreciated, as I spent hours upon hours
compiling that information and it's heart-breaking to think that it might be
lost!

Cheers,

New versions can read the files made by older versions. Old versions an't

always read files made by new versions. Mind you, if you look around, you
might be able to buy your original version, but you shouldn't need to. Do
remember to back your files up before you do anything, though.

Just FYI.... The latest version of RootsMagic will also read that FTM
file and convert it to a RM file, or a GEDCOM, that you can import
into any genealogy program.

FTM makes gedcoms, you don't need RM.

The reply was in response to someone who no longer *HAD* FTM, and
wanted to recover their information from a native FTM file. If the OP
had a copy of FTM, there whould have been no reason for the post.

Not to make GEDCOM's. Any genealogical program will do that - of course,
we don't know what FTM will prove unable to do next, LOL!

Guess you didn't read what was written. FTM *can* make GEDCOMs.

What's your tree like?
