Can You Help Me Find MYRA farm?

Legg inn av gj02565 » 2. mars 2006 kl. 1.27

Help! On the 1865 Akershus telling, Anne Olsdatter and Kristian Hansen are shown living at the farm MYRA, in Urskoug prestegjeld, Blakjer sokn, Fossum og Mork skuledistrikt. Can anyone help me locate this farm (MYRA) on a map? I cannot find it on any modern map of Aurskog. Does anyone know of a map showing all the farms named in the 1865 telling of Urskoug? Many thanks!

Hello
Myra was not a farm. It was a small cotter's place (husmannsplass) belonging to the farm Kvevli (store) in Blaker. You will not find Myra on a map, you have to look for Kvevli. Today Blaker is not in Aurskog (Urskoug), but in Sørum.

PS - Had a look at a map. Kvevli is some kilometers east of Sørumsand. - Tove D. Johansen

If you go here:

http://ngis2.statkart.no/norgesglasset/default.html

Set it to english (top right), chose place names, type inn Myrvoll, Sørum municipality.

You will then (I hope) se the Kvevli Area on the map, and Myra will perhaps have stood somewhere there.

Hi Tove! I can't thank you enough. A church record at Aurskog 7/283 (arrivals departures) indicated that my Anne Olsdatter moved from Sorum to Aurskog in 1855 and was living at "Qvavlie-Eje" in 1857 when she had a child. I finally figured out that "Qvavlie" was an older spelling of "Kvevli" which I have been able to find on a map. So your information confirms that she was still there and adds the information that Myra was under Kvevli Store. I also have a brief 1974 report from the Archives at Oslo that Anne's first child, Andreas Christophersen (Kristoffersen), was born 12 Oct 1844, at "Haugen under Fossum," Blaker parish. Haugen is another farm I cannot find, but from your description of Myra being simply a cottage and not a farm, I suspect the same holds true for Haugen. You obviously have a great knowledge of the area! Can you tell me how you found the information about Myra? Many thanks again!!

Thank you Andre! I did find Kvevli on the Nordsglasset (an excellent map site) and although the Myra cottage was not named, by enlarging the map view a number of small buildings (cottages?) appeared. I found one just west of Kvevli store on the road leading to Blaker that seems a good candidate, since it appears to sit at the edge of a marsh - and Myra is the Norwegian word for "marsh." What do you think? Thanks again!

Yes "Haugen under Fossum" means that Haugen was owned by the farm Fossum. Could also have been referred to as Fossum-eie. (By the way the meaning of Fossum is the farm/home by the waterfall)
