FTM - GEDCOM with living persons not shown

Legg inn av Claude » 21. februar 2006 kl. 3.40

I have FTM 2006 and wish to create a GEDCOM for someone else, however I
don't want to show any info on living persons (for privacy). I can't figure
out how to do this - can someone suggest a way?
Thanks

Make a copy of your FTW file (File/Export file/Entire file, I think it
goes, or point to the file in Windows Explorer, do Ctrl-C, then Ctrl-V.
Then it will be on the Explorer list as Copy of xxx.ged, which you can
rename if you want)

Open it, go File/Privatize File

Make a GEDCOM.

(for safety, I'd then dump the copy of that FTW file, just to save
confusion)

Thanks Paul. I note it says the privatise state is only temporary and can
be undone. I'm too nervous to try that so followed your advice and it went
well. Only problem is that it doesn't remove the notes.

see help menu
privatize

and unprivatize

Privatize File command
This command appears on the File menu. Use it to hide the Birth, Death,
Marriage, Medical, and Notes information for living relatives.

Note that when a file is privatized, you cannot edit or add to it.

Privatizing a Family File.

Privatizing your Family File
Part of the reward of genealogy is the exchange of information with
other hobbyists and professionals, as well as your own family members.
While sharing information is the key to expanding your family tree, it
also brings up the question of how to protect the privacy of living
family members. Maybe your Family File includes some personal
information you would rather not share with people outside the family,
or perhaps you’d like to omit addresses and phone numbers.

Family Tree Maker allows you to assure the privacy of others (as well as
your own) by designating certain facts as private. This prevents this
information from being imported/exported, printed, copied, or published
on the Internet.

To use the privatization feature:

1. From the File menu, select Privatize File.

Family Tree Maker displays the Privatize File dialog box.

2. Select Yes if you want Family Tree Maker to hide the Birth, Death,
Marriage, Medical, and Notes information for living relatives.

3. Family Tree Maker displays a progress meter while it privatizes your
Family File. It hides all data fields for living individuals and marks
them with the word “private.” Only relationships between living
individuals will be retained. Once selected as a preference, privatized
text is enforced whenever you copy/export, print, or publish your Family
File.

Note: When privatized, your file will become "read-only." This means you
cannot modify the file in any way until you leave this mode. You can
deselect the Privatized mode at any time in the original Family File by
returning to the Preferences dialog box.

you can go on to remove the notes and Paul would be the best to explain how
to do this.

Gee, Kay...

This is one of FTWs most stupid things. It works for any file, whether
private or not.

There are 2 steps, Firstly, export your file to a GEDCOM. This can be
some or all folk, but it has no effect on the result.

Now, open FTW, create a new blank file. Then import (File, Append/Merge)
the GEDCOM you have just created. When you select the GEDCOM name from
the dialog, you will get a dialog with a button "Facts to import". Now
you can pick what goes into the new file...for notes, click "Don't
import"...and anything else you don't want in there.

Now, privatise the result.

Another FTW first!
