Yes, IE's "help" often doesn't.

Your user agent (browser) does not support frames or is currently configured not to display frames.

You may be using a very old version of Internet Explorer. Go to "help"
and "about Internet Explorer", and check your version number. If it's
before version 5.5 or so, it's (1) out of date, and (2) not secure
enough to use these days, simply speaking.

A suggestion - try Firefox, which is a faster more secure web browser.
I say this instead of saying "update your IE" because depending on a
number of things, a new version of IE can inherit setup strangeness from
your old version. Go to:
http://www.getfirefox.com/
download the browser (should have a greed "download now" button with the
right version for your system) and run the installer. It will talk you
through all the steps, and you can have it import all of your bookmarks
and homepage.

An added advantage of trying it this way is that it won't hurt your
existing IE configuration at all. But once you try Firefox you may just
want to not go back to IE.

Questions are welcome - lots of helpful folks here.

Just to allay others' concerns, I note that you are running a much
higher-numbered release of OE and that leads me to believe that you are
probably running WinXP with a later version of IE and it would support
frames.

The only thing I can think of offhand is that there is something strange
about that website (whatever it is) or your Security settings are set
too high. If you click Tools-Internet Options-Security, you can see that
panel. Has that been modified from the original defaults? Click Custom
Level and reset to Medium and see if that helps. Within that is at least
one setting dealing with frames.

popup-blockers or other protection software has been installed on that
system, they might explain it. You might be better off Googling for an
IE newsgroup or message board where people are more likely to have
encountered problems like this.

Ok followed those instructions all Java items were enabled ( Java Logging;
Java Console; JIT compiler)and applied button pushed and still nothing!

IE6 doesn't come with Java - I think. I had to download it from Sun
separately.

Agreed in some respects and I also have both the Mozilla 1.7.12 and the
Mozilla Firefox 1.0.7 browsers available on my own desktop. However,
such suggestions, as well-intentioned as they might be, are not
responsive to the issue that was presented, which is how to get IE to
work. Whether it's the current issue in regard to IE or other totally
non-related issues, I generally see all too many responses to requests
for help that never even address the question that was asked and I find
that to be aggravating. Didn't know you were going to hit one of my

The fact is that Firefox has its own quirks and there are any number of
websites that render properly only in IE. It has to be used for those at
a minimum. (One example: http://www.castlegarden.org) We can be as unhappy as
we please with some website designers and with MS for supposedly being
non-compliant, but when IE is the only browser that will render a
certain website, there is no choice but to use it. Firefox could
technically render them if they weren't so stubborn. I use Firefox as my
main browser brcause I like tabbed browsing, but IE is set as my
default. No hatred of MS from this direction.

While I agree with the first half of that statement, I just checked the
Castlegarden site in FF 1.5 on Win XP, and as far as I can tell, it
worked just fine.

That would be great if true, but since you didn't give indication of
familiarity with the main problem and specifically indicate that it waa
fixed, I don't know how to interpret what "just fine" means. The problem
had been that it didn't always display the full first page of listings
and left some off at the bottom until refreshed. Try surname Weber for
1880-1910. IE does it right, FF 1.0.7 stops at AL Weber.

No sooner said than done. I also see that the TB 1.5 beta I run has
been made official, so I'll do that one also in a couple. The beta has a
message formatting bug I'll be interested in seeing possibly fixed.

Thanks for the heads-up. I usually have the latest, but when everything
is going reasonably well and there's no specific need for some fix or
other it's easy to forget.

If not, use that site as an example and communicate with the folks at
Java. There actually very helpful.
