Comments: Hi, I have been searching for any kin of my grandfather John M. Johansen. I got help from different research sites such as geneology and Norway Heritage. The closest information was that he came from somewhere in Norway to America along with Sami reindeer herders. According to the information, they left from a place called Bosekop (in Alta) in 1898 on the "s/s Manitoban" boat. This group settled in Alaska. My grandfather left this group and settled by the Yukon River where he married and died. This was in a very remote location and nothing can be found to this day. I have no personal paperwork such as birth nor death certificates as he died when my father and his brothers were very young. A catholic mission took my father at a very young age since both his parents died. I have been trying to make some connection to his family history with no avail so far. I have left messages in a couple of different sites or forums but so far this is all I got. I know that naturalization papers must have been involved but I haven't really gotten connected to them. A rough estimate that my husband and I got of my grandfather is his birth year of 1876. This was from old 1930 Alaska census that listed him at the age of 53 as a laborer. My father has since died last May and only one living brother remains. He was too small to remember his father. However, I am still trying and want to at least find history or any kin of my grandfather. Please if you can help me in any way, I would really like to try to put together my father's side of the family history. Please send me an e-mail reply if you can help me. Thank you and God bless.
