A relative of mine, Daniel Hansen, born 1879, left Norway April 23, 1904
heading for New York City. I found his name in the Ellis Island database. He
arrived New York May 16, 1904. He lived in the US (probably New York City
area) and became a US citizen. That's the last trace I have of him.

Hei
There are several by that name in the database. I assume that you know that is
the right one by his age & location in Norway?
It's not clear as to what you base those statements on. According to the ship's
manifest, he was going to Portland, Maine. He was going to visit an uncle of his
by the name of A. Sorensen, 802 SE 10th St, Portland, Maine. Do you have any
information on Hr Sorensen?

He is registrated in the Norwegian emigration records leaving from
Kristiansand, Norway. The destination he gave to the Norwegian Government
was New York. The record in the Ellis Island database corresponds with his
age, his last residence as well as the date of arrival.
I'm not shure that he lived in New York, but my father told me once that he
lived there in the fifties. He was a blacksmith and had his own business
there.
Unfortunately I'm not able to find any information on A. Sorensen in the
Norwegian archives. However, Daniels father was Hans Kristian Olsen and his
mother Bridte Olsdatter. From the way they got their last names in those
days, any uncle of him should have the last name Olsen. However, it could be
that A. Sorensen is his aunts husband.
Are there several Daniel Hansen, born 1879 in the Census's as well?

For 1910, I found a very good candidate living in Brooklyn, NY with wife Bertha
& 3 children, 8, 7, & 5.. The age is correct and year of immigration 1904. His
wife came in 1906 according to the census. Unfortunately, the manifest is absent
so it can't be seen if the children were with that Bertha.
