Spillum

Legg inn av dn09189 » 09 sep 2011 06:46:15

I am looking for informationon a George Spillum who in the 1900 census lives in Norway, Racine County, Wisconsin, USA, It says that he emigrated in 1858 (but that is not necessarily 100%). I can't find any emigration for that timeframe or Udflyttede records for Namsos. Are there any other sources for finding more information on this family.

Other info:
In the 1865 census of Norway there are 80 Spillum farms. All are from the Namsos area. Looking in the records of Namsos around 1840 (from 1900 census), there is a confirmation for a George Johannesen living at Spillum, son of Johannes Ingebrigtsen and Karen Guttormsdatter. It shows he is born on 23/8/1841 which doesn’t match info in 1900 census. Confirmation is on p. 43 of Namsos dated 7/9/1856.

On p.13, Baptism record #33, shows a George, b. 23/8/1841 and bapt. 19/11/1841 is the son of G. (married) Johnnes Ingebrigtsen og Karen Gutormsd. Spillum

Any information or direction you can supply would be greatly appreciated.

There must have been several boys named Georg Spillum. This one I found was born in 1869:(number 6)
Kildeinformasjon: Nord-Trøndelag fylke, Namsos, Ministerialbok nr. 768A05 (1865-1874), Fødte og døpte 1870, side 54.

Not sure but it isn't the one I'm looking for. George Spillum that I have was enumerated in the 1880 census at 40 years of age.
I think the one I have noted is correct but not 100% sure. The direct family does not have any information, that I have gleaned yet.
Thanks,
David

Thanks for that info! I believe that George Christian Spillum is the son of a brother of George Spillum.
George Christian has, as his father Ingebrigt Johannesen Spillum who possibly(probably) is the first son of Johannes Ingebrigtsen, the father of George Spillum (b. ~1840).
More research to do!
Thank you,
David
Is there a bygdebok for the Namsos area?

There were two Georg, one born in 1841 and son of Johannes Ingebrigtsen and Karen Guttormsdtr and George born in 1839 son of Ole Jonassen and Gunhild Andersdtr.
The first Georg is the uncle of the Georg born in 1869.
