Full Obituary: Arden L. (Verna) Bricker, 100 of Columbia passed away peacefully on Friday, December 3, 2010 at Boone Hospital Center. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, December 6, 2010 at Epple Chapel in Lenoir Woods, 3710 Lenoir St, Columbia, MO 65201. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Interment will be at 3:45 P.M. at Asbury Cemetery in Chariton County. Arden was born August 29, 1910 in Kansas City, Missouri to Lillie Belle Young (Emmerich) and John Arthur Bricker. She graduated from Salisbury, Missouri High School at age 16 and began work as an office assistant with a local lumber yard. At age 18 she moved to Washington, D.C. and began a 35-year career with the Federal Government. She enjoyed assignments in Hawaii, Pasadena, California, Japan, Rome, and finally in San Francisco. While working as an Army civilian in Hawaii she witnessed the bombing of Pearl Harbor She returned to Missouri in 1974 and lived in El Dorado Springs, caring for her mother, then in Bolivar for several years until moving to the Lenoir Woods Community in 1997, where she lived independently past her 100th birthday. While residing at Lenoir she made many close friends and was an active member of the community. She loved to share views of the flowers she tended in the flowerbeds outside of her apartment. Throughout her life she enjoyed travel, flower gardening and the fine arts, especially operatic music. She actively supported many environmental and humanitarian causes. She is survived by her sister, Mildred Grant, of Columbia, nephews Jay Bricker (Linda) of Preston, MO, Robert Bricker (Nancy) of Cross Timbers, MO, John Bricker (Angela) of Mound City, KS, Steve Bricker (Dara) of Cashmere, WA, Richard Grant (Judy) of Columbia, David Grant (Pat) of Kankakee, IL, Jonathan Grant (Judy) of Atlanta, GA, and nieces Mary Dettke (David) of Marysville, KS, Valerie Rude (Brian) of Rice Lake, WI, and Ann Bricker, of El Dorado, KS as well as numerous great nieces, nephews, and great, great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Herbert Bricker, Jack Bricker, Gary Bricker, Robert Bricker, infant sister Mary Ethel, and a nephew, Duane Bricker (Martha).
