My name is Nicholas Rogneby. I live in Wisconsin, U.S.A.
I have been working on my family genealogy for just about a year now with the help of my father and other living relatives. I have also been in contact with the Norwegian American Culture Center here in Wisconsin. They have all been incredibly helpful, however, I am finding myself at a bit of a road block in my research.
Following my lineage on a strictly paternal line, we have the following:
Nicholas Rogneby (myself) 1985-
Steven Rogneby (my father) 1961-
Robert Rogneby 1939- born in Wisconsin
Hawkin (Hoaton) Rogneby 1899-1977
Hans Peter Rogneby 1865-1930 born in Østre Toten - emigrated 1887
* Son of Haagen Hansen and Ingeborg Arnesdatter
As I can tell, Hans was born before his parents were married, although they did go on to wed. Hans is also the first in the lineage to take on the name "of Rogneby"
Going off the records I have found, they would have likely been from the area of Hoff/Lena and were more than likely workers on the Rogneby farmstead in the area. I am looking for confirmation of this information as well as any tips or hints anyone may have toward tracking this further.
I am already planning a trip to Norway for next year and would love to have more concrete details about my lineage before I go.
Any help offered is greatly appreciated
My Best,
Nicholas Rogneby

Re: Rogneby
wow! thank you for the fast reply!
Regarding Hans Peter Rogneby: I have come across at least 3 different years of his birth depending on the record I look at (baptism/death/gravestone). His gravestone here in Wisconsin shows 1856-1930. He is laid beside His wife Christine 1872-1953. I understand and acknowledge that a gravestone is likely to be inaccurate. The baptismal record feels like it would be most legit.
As far as I know, Hans did not marry twice.
Interesting side note about Hans, however, as I understand it he was born before his parents (Haagen and Ingeborg) were married.
Regarding his sibling Johan (John): I have what looks like a passport application (1921) from the USA back to Norway. It is somewhat tough to read but mentions that he emigrated to the USA in 1893 and resided in the USA 28 years. Says he was naturalized as a citizen in North Dakota, USA in 1906. His passport had him "visiting his family" in Norway, leaving from the port of New York, March of 1921. I do not know anything else about John and and curious about the other siblings as well. How many or which of them stayed in Norway.
Regarding Haagen Hansen: If I am gathering correctly, this would show that he and Ingeborg had 7 children (6 boys, 1 girl). Does this seem accurate? Also, his death record mentioned Hof. Would this also be his burial place or is that generally undocumented information?
Thank you again for the impressive resourcefulness! I can't tell you how much I appreciate it.
My Best,
Nicholas Rogneby

Re: Rogneby

I found 8 children of Haaken and Ingeborg, they got a daughter Helga http://digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/webcen ... =6454#ovre
But she died only 3 month old http://digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/webcen ... k=503#ovre
I found the marriage of Hans's sister Inga Marie with Ole Olsen Melby http://digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/webcen ... =2849#ovre
The family in 1900 http://digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/webcen ... =1258#ovre
The marriage of Hans's brother Carl Anton http://digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/webcen ... =1918#ovre
It's his second marriage, his 1. wife died in october 1888.

Ole Kristian Olsby dies in 1938, (this form is in norwegian) http://www.disnorge.no/gravminner/korri ... id=1897280
His wife Jørgine dies in 1955 http://www.disnorge.no/gravminner/korri ... id=1897279
You can try to contact the church in Østre Toten and ask if they got any familynames who has the burrial fees to Ole Kristian Olsbys grave [email protected]
Maybe you will get names of descendants that you can contact before your trip to Norway next year.
Good luck
(Hope you understand my English, is not the best)

Re: Rogneby
Again, thank you so much! You have been an immense help.
Your English is fine
I apologize for subjecting you to English on a Norwegian forum. I hope to one day learn the language.
I will continue digging to see what more I can find on my own. You will hear from me again on this forum.
Many Thanks,
Nicholas Rogneby
