Janinda var født i februar 1820 i Gravens prestegjeld i Bergen Stift.
Hun ble konfirmert i Granvin i 1836. Gift med Ellef Engebretsen Sagen. Janinda og Ellef bodde mesteparten av livet i Aal i Hallingdal. De fikk 8 barn. Hvorav flere emigrete til Amerika. Janinda selv emigrete til Amarika 9.juni 1892 med kurs for Zumbrota i Minnesota.
I FT 1900 er hun bosatt i Roscoe Township,Goodhue, Ninnesota sammen med sønnen Egelberth Ellefson( i Norge Engebret Ellefsen) og han kone Martha og 2 barn Edwin og Julia.

I bygdeboka for ÅL i Hallingdal står det at Janinda ble 100 år. Jeg er på jakt etter bekreftelse på dette. Hun døde antagelig i Roscoe eller Zumbrota( hun hadde barn som bodde der også).
