Han emmigrerte til USA i 1903,men vi vet ikke hva som skjedde der, giftet seg med Marit Dombu i 1903,fikk 2 døtre født der, yngste datter født i Norge-hun er min mormor. Hadde vært morsomt å vite hva som skjedde, ble han gift igjen og fikk mer fam.....

Jeg er ikke "ekspert"...but I enjoy genealogi as a hobby.
I looked for Karl/Carl Reitan in the 1910 and 1920 USA census records...I did not find him..
but the spelling might be different...
Yes, perhaps putting the querry at the emigration section of the forum would be a good idea...

Hei igjen!
In the 1910 census I find one "Charles" Reitan age 35, living in Whatcom county, Washington (town of Lumni Island). It says he is single, and immigrated 1903.
He works as a "pile driver" (I think for building...maybe bridges?).

Don't know if this is "your man"...no sign of Marit or children...

De fikk 2 barn som ble født i Seattle,Washington ja Ingeborg f 19.12,1903 og Tora også født i Seattle. hun født 11.06.1905, Ragnhild er født 20.11.1906 i norge. Marit reiste visstnok over en gang alene, etter at Ragnhild og ble født,men Karl kom aldri tilbake. Marit døde i 1915, så barna vokste opp i 3 forskjellig hjem.

Do I understand this correctly:
the first 2 children were born in Seattle...then Marit returned to Norway around or before 1906 when Ragnild was born in Norway...but "Karl" remained in the USA.

So is it possible that "Charles Reitan" in Whatcom county in 1910 might be "your man"?
It is common that Karl/Carl can become "Charles" over here.

I searched in the state of Washington, digital records...(http://www.digitalarchives.wa.gov)
I found a record of Naturalization for a Carl Reitan, in Skagit county, WA on June 4, 1914.
I'll try to look around Skagit county and see if I can find this fellow in the census records in 1910.
So it is possible the "Charles" in Whatcom county may not be the right one...???

I looked for Carl and Marit in the Ellis island records...they are listed in the 1903 record and they are going to the "brother in law" (Marit's brother) Peder Dombu who lives in Seattle Washington...
Did you know of this information?
I am not sure what help that is...but thought I should mention it...
