Kato Gerhard Iversen: Til USA (Minnesota) via Quebec?
Kato Gerhard Iversen ble født 16.11.1878 og døpt 19.01.1879 i Sandvikskirken i Bergen
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?i ... x_side=-33
som nr 3 og som sønn av Engel Johan Iversen og hustru Karoline Rasmine født Iversen.
Han forlot Bergen 21.05.1907 med oppgitt bestemmelsessted Clarkfield, Minnesota
http://digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/webcen ... 61222#ovre
og ved avreise opplyste han at han skulle arbeide som jernbanearbeider der.
Jeg vil tro det er ham vi finner igjen i Family Search
https://www.familysearch.org/s/recordDe ... u8TUc%253D
Arne

Hi,
In 1942 Kato Krist Gerhart Iverson lived at 513 Maynard Avenue, Seattle, Washington.
His WWII draft card confirms he was born 16 November 1878 in Bergen, Norway.
He was unemployed and under care of the city hospital. He signed the draft card
"Christ Iverson"
Mvh,
Brian

Kato Krist Gerhart Iverson applied for US citizenship on 29 December 1936 in the state of Washington.
Re: Kato Gerhard Iversen: Til USA (Minnesota) via Quebec?
Papers were filed in 1937
He signed his name "Kato Krist Gerhart Iverson", born 16 Nov 1878 in Bergen.
He was a logger, light brown hair, blue eyes, 5 foot 6 inches tall, 140 pounds.
Tattoos on both hands, not married, no children.
He arrived in the US at Michigan on 9 June 1907.
Hilsen fra Tyskland,
Brian

Re: Kato Gerhard Iversen: Til USA (Minnesota) via Quebec?
Thank you Brian.
It seems to me this may be the person I am looking for, although the name "Krist" cannot be found in his records in Norway.
And it remains to be seen what were his whereabouts between 1907 and 1936.
But thanks again, Brian. Now I know a little more about Kato. I read in the papers when his father died in 1931 that his family had not heard from him (Kato) for 14 or 15 years.

His World War I draft card is also in Seattle, Washington (1917).
The name at the top is "Krist Iversen" and he signed it "Christ Iversen".
His date of birth is shown as 16 Nov 1877.

Re: Kato Gerhard Iversen: Til USA (Minnesota) via Quebec?
In the 1910 census, Christ Iversen was working for the railroad in Gully, Polk county, Minnesota.
The census shows he was 31 years old and arrived in the US in 1907.

Re: Kato Gerhard Iversen: Til USA (Minnesota) via Quebec?
Leaving Bergen, Norway, in 1907, to work on the railway in Minnesota, makes it even more certain this is the man, even if he seems to have used the name Christ in 1910.
I suppose he may be found in the 1920 and 1930 Censuses as well, and maybe it is possible to find out when he died?
Thanks once again, Brian.

Re: Kato Gerhard Iversen: Til USA (Minnesota) via Quebec?
Hi Arne,
When "Krist Iversen" gave the information for his World War I draft card in 1917,
he said his nearest living relative was Karoline Iversen, which would be his mother.
This fits also.
I can't find him in the 1920 or 1930 Washington census, I wonder what name he was using.

Re: Kato Gerhard Iversen: Til USA (Minnesota) via Quebec?
Hi Arne,
The index for Washington death records is available online. There is only one record for
Christ Iversen:
Christ Iversen,
Died in Seattle, Washington on 20 December 1946, age 68 years.
Buried at Washelli.
Parents names unkown.
The age means he was born 1878, so this must be the right person.

Re: Kato Gerhard Iversen: Til USA (Minnesota) via Quebec?
Yes, I agree.
Even if his mother, as far as I know, died in 1915. This only indicates that he did not keep in touch with his family in Norway, and that he did not know of his mother's death.
And as mentioned above, in 1931 his family had not heard from him for 14 or 15 years.
You have been VERY helpful, Brian. Thanks.
