FTM v.8 and XP SP2

Legg inn av History Fan » 1. september 2004 kl. 4.14

I have a PC running XP Home SP2. I installed Family Tree Maker
version 8 on it recently. The program loads fine, and I can add info with
no trouble. However, when I try to access Internet sites thru FTM's toolbar
menu, Internet Explorer 6 crashes every time. I'm fairly certain this
problem is related to FTM because it only happens with that program.

Anyway, should I assume this glitch is merely the result of using an
old program with a brand new operating system, and that nothing can be done
short of upgrading FTM?

You are seeing a bug in XP Home SP2 and not in FTM 8. "Crashing" (whatever you
mean by that) is not an appropriate behavior for MSIE. You haven't given the
order of anything and whether you installed SP2 on a running XP system and when
FTM 8 was installed.

In any case, only Microsoft will be interested in this problem or be able to
help, so you should contact them.

You can try and see whether or not your firewall is blocking access to the
net through FTM - usually it will let IE but not third party progs.

Actually, I need to correct myself a bit. It's not IE that is
freezing up, or "crashing", it's FTM. But only when I try to access the
Internet thru that program. Windows Firewall has not notified me about FTM.
