1900 Census Lookup Request

Legg inn av Mark Barnett » 30 okt 2004 03:49:19

I am looking for a census of Jesse Sanford Barnett. He was born in
Milton County, GA in 1882. He father was Henry Lewis Barnett but he
died in 1888. His mother according to his death certificate was Susie
Sadler.

His brother Robert Nathan Barnett's ( born in 1878 in Milton County,
GA) death certificate shows a mother of Sarah Jane Stephens.

Milton Marriage Records has a Henry Barnett marrying Stephens, Sarah
J. in 1875

By 1910, Jesse was married and living with his in-laws with his wife.

Here's the 1880 census from the LDS site:

Name Relation Marital Status Gender Race Age Birthplace Occupation
Father's Birthplace Mother's Birthplace
Henry L. BARNETT Self M Male W 29 GA Farmer GA GA
Sarah J. BARNETT Wife M Female W 26 GA Keeping House GA
GA
Marietta BARNETT Dau S Female W 4 GA GA GA
Robert N. BARNETT Son S Male W 1 GA GA GA
Jane K. STEPHENS MotherL W Female W 63 GA No Occupation GA
GA

I can't find Jesse, Robert or Sarah in 1900. In 1910 there's a Sarah J.
Barnett living with a married daughter, Annie Garrett, in Milton Co.

Thanks for looking. Got that information. It's strange I can't find
them in 1900.

This might not help you any with finding the family in the 1900 census,
but while trying to hunt down Sarah, Robert, Jessie and Annie, I came
across a site that had a submission by a descendent of Marietta Barnett
Garmon (I checked Marietta's family in 1900, to see if they might have
been living with her and her husband, but they weren't).

Anyway, go to http://www.ancientfaces.com/Family/photos/
and look under Garmon -- you'll see submissions for Berry Garmon,
Marietta's husband, and Marietta and Berry's son, William Harvey Garmon
and his wife. There is an e-mail link for contacting the submitter, and
if you haven't already corresponded with her, then maybe Clara might
know something you don't (one can always hope <g>).

I know how frustrating it can be to know that your ancestor is out
there, but not be able to find them. I can find my grandfather in the
1900, 1920 and 1930 censuses, but I can't find him in 1910. One of my
great-grandfathers is missing record-wise until his marriage in the mid
1880s (the sole exception being that he's mentioned in his grandfather's
will which is dated 1878, and which doesn't help with finding him or his
mother).

Good luck.
