Ancestry has three data bases re civil war soldiers, civil war service
records and civil war pension records. I suggest you post your names and
questions and we'll see what we can do.

Thanks for the idea, Mike.

Here is the info listed on a rootsweb page. It gives the basic info for the
individual.

BOOTH, J. C.
Reel: CP1.13
Microdex: 4.000000
Sequence: 21.000000
Num of pages: 6.000000
BOOTH, AILSEY ELIZABETH

BOOTH, J. C.
Reel: CP1.13
Microdex: 4.000000
Sequence: 23.000000
Pages: 10.000000
BOOTH, J. C.

I do know that it lists the state as Mississippi (MS).
Branch: Artillery, Light
Company: Darden's Co.

This is all I have, so we do know that he served and applied for a pension.
I will continue to research the company and try to find some background
that way.
I don't know if you can find the entire pension application or not.
If not, thanks for trying!!!!!!!!!!

I have gotten further in the last few weeks with the help and advice of
people here, than I had the previous year doing the research the hard way.

Thanks again!
Scott

I found 2 listings on Ancestry for JC Booths that served in Mississippi.

Name: J. C. Booth
Unit: Capt. Darden's Co., Mississippi L. Art'y. (Jefferson Artillery).
Rank - Induction: Private
Rank - Discharge: Private
Allegiance: Confederate

Name: J. C. Booth
Company: A
Unit: Yerger's Reg't, Mississippi Cav.
Rank - Induction: Private
Rank - Discharge: Private
Allegiance: Confederate

I looked through the pension files but couldn't find any that seemed to
correspond to either of those entries.

One of the online sites says this about Darden's Co.

Darden's Company, Mississippi Light Artillery (Jefferson Artillery)
Jefferson Light Artillery was organized at Fayette, Mississippi, in May,
1861, with men from Jefferson County. There it entered Confederate service
with about 90 officers and men. It fought at Shiloh and in the Kentucky
Campaign, then was assigned to S.C. Williams' and J.D. Myrick's Battalion of
Artillery, Army of Tennessee. The battery participated in many battles of
the army from Murfreesboro to Atlanta, moved with Hood into Tennessee, and
was active in North Carolina. This unit had 8 wounded of the 70 at Shiloh, 2
wounded at Perryville , 6 wounded at Murfreesboro, and 1 killed and 2
wounded at Chickamauga. In December, 1863, it totaled 77 effectives, had 55
present in April, 1864, and surrendered with fewer than 40. Captains William
L. Harper and Putnam Darden were in command.
