Am I half-Oriental?

Am I half-Oriental?
I am a British, white, Caucasian male, aged 33. Both my parents are
deceased. However, a family member recently told me that my (Caucasian)
father isn't actually my father, and that my real father is from the Far
East. Apparently, my mother had an affair with an Oriental man (possibly
Chinese) and I am their offspring.
I do actually have several Oriental traits - I am very slim whereas my
brothers are large, my eyelids are much smaller than those of my siblings
and my hair (head and body) is dark whereas theirs is blond.
Is there anything I can do to determine whether I am actually half-Oriental,
considering that my parents are deceased? Could my doctor do any tests?
Apologies if I am in the wrong Newsgroup - if this is the case, please could
somebody let me know a more appropriate group where I could post my enquiry.
Many thanks.

That's a very good and thought provoking question Thomas!
Why not give your doctor a call and ask?
Then again, you could always post a picture of yourself somewhere and that
way people could pass on their thoughts. :c)
Best of luck with this!

your y chromosomes checked, it would show whether or not you have the same
male ancestry. However, aren't you building up grief for yourself and your
family? Does it really matter who donated the genetic material? Your father
is the man who brounght you up.

It wouldn't tell you about ethnic origins, but if you and your brothers got
your y chromosomes checked, it would show whether or not you have the same
male ancestry. However, aren't you building up grief for yourself and your

Thomas, maybe there's a newsgroup with the word "genetics" in it that
might have more relevant information?

He simply needs to locate a lab that's doing y chromosome tests - they
advertise in magazines such as Family Tree Magazine. As I said, it won't
give ethnic origins.

My brother and I don't look anything alike. We've had people not believe we
were brothers. By the time we were adults, he was at least 100 lbs heavier
than I. I'm 6' and he's 6'4".
There is enough similarity between our parents that I wouldn't necessarily
believe that either of us are the milkman's. (I do look a lot more like Dad
than he does). I inherited my mother's complexion and that makes a big
difference. (Mom is a redhead). I also got the Dickerson ears. 8-/

Re: Am I half-Oriental?
My sympathy on the loss of your parents.
Apparently they can only test for probabilities of being oriental, although they
can test for paternity - you and your brother would have to take the test.
Is your brother one to tell tall tales?
take care

Re: Am I half-Oriental?
Many thanks to all who have responded. I have found a company here in the
UK called 'DNA Solutions' who, for a fee of £299, can determine whether I
have the same father as my siblings, so that's a start.
The lady on the phone also said that they might be able to determine the
likelihood of my being of Asian descent, but she wasn't 100% sure (she was
the receptionist after all, not a doctor). She said that perhaps certain
aspects of my chromosomes/DNA could be compared with those of known Asians
in their database to see if there are similarities. Like I said, it was
just a thought on her part, nothing concrete.

Having a different blood group from your brother wouldn't indicate

Certain blood groups predominate in particular races, so they *may* be
able to tell something from that.
