ok, thanks, so I shouldn't get my hopes up.
It would be nice if there is a way to get the original information, everyone
involved is dead.

Usually in a formal (court approved) adoption, the original birth
certificate is sealed and replaced by one with the adoptive father's
name. The latter is then what is on file with the vital stats people
and that is possibly what you will end up getting. I know that in
Washington state adoption files are sealed; there is a (complicated)
process to request that a file be unsealed (sometimes granted,
sometimes not) but it usually involves the parent or child involved,
not third parties.

Thanks, I just sent an email. I really hope I can get a copy of the birth
cert with info about his biological father...didn't want to send in the
form
and $15 without even knowing if they keep the originals.

Perhaps they can tell you that at Ohio Vital Records.

My husband's father (Stanley) was born in Butler county, Ohio.
Stanley's
father left, and his mom remarried. His step-father adopted him and
his
brother and they took his last name. My problem is that the birth
certificates were changed. Does anyone know if the original
certificates
would be kept on file where I could find more info on his biological
father?
I know his name, but absolutely nothing else.
thanks for any insight,
Kristen
