BK6 question

Legg inn av Norvin » 13 sep 2004 05:34:42

Using BK6 and have families already set up. Received a GED file with
many more names/families and was wondering what the best way to
incorporate the two files. The new GED file has duplicates of my
original data base. New file also has a lot of individual note and
information. Any suggestion for this newbie. Thanks

It looks like you will have to import the new ged file to a "new" database, and
then merge databases (file options). That is the way it is done in BK5.

take care

and in the present version of BK6.

But I will also recommend all users of BK5 to update to BK6

As a user of Brother's Keeper from almost the begining, DOS now
version 6, I find there is no easy way to merge the two files without
duplicating people. I usually print out new GEDCOM files and study
the names. Many times I just delete the duplicate names and after the
two files are merged connect them back, make sure to use the tab key
after typing a name so the program will seach the data base for that
name. Some times the only way is to do a lot of typing. How are the
notes and other information done in your data base's, external or
internal text files?
