Land bounty

I visited the U.S. National Archives (northeast region - Pittsfield Ma)
recently; and saw they had files on revolutionary war pensions, and land
bounties for the war of 1812.

So their were no land bounties for the revolutionary war?

Also, if a person wasn't in their 'draft registration index' the idea would
be suggested they volunteered for service.

Where would one find U.S. WWI volunteer information?

Yes there were bounty lands given for service in the revolutionary war.

Which war are you talking about for the draft registration index?
1812?

What kind of records do you expect to find for volunteers for WWI?
Everyone volunteer or not had to fill out a registration card, those
are available.

Mea culpa, WWI.

The helper at the National Archive & Records Admn made it clear they have
'draft' registration cards, as distinct from volunteers. Where would the
registration cards be located? Not finding what I was looking for in the
draft cards, I would really be looking for any WWI US soldier documents.

The land bounties and pensions are on the a reels together.
[in alpha order, no less]

If you know the state they lived in before & after the war, the state
archives should have the 'abstracts of WWI service' on file that were
done in the 30's.

NY's info on those files is at -
http://www.archives.nysed.gov/a/researc ... html#b0808

They have some other tidbits, but mostly they have;
name
serial/service number
designation as "white" or "colored"
residence
place and date of enlistment/induction
place of birth
age or date of birth
organizations served in, with dates of assignments and transfers
dates of overseas service
wounds or other injuries received in action
date of separation/discharge (and place of separation for Navy
personnel)
percent of disability at discharge

Every state archives that I've looked at has them available to the
public for a very minimal fee.

Armed with unit numbers and dates it might be easier to track you
soldier [or at least find out if he served].
