According to Naturalization records, one of my relatives, Joseph Byer,
says to have arrived Oct 1882 aboard the ship Hammonia emigrating from
Russia. Since the ship didn't have it's maiden voayge until the
following year (1883) I thought he had remembered the year incorrectly.
ISTG has transcribed the manifest for the Hammonia for Oct 1883 at:
http://immigrantships.net/v4/1800v4/ham ... 09_01.html
There is no listing that even closely resembles my relative on any of
the 3 pages.
Any ideas?

The webpage/url you give below says:
"The steamship HAMMONIA, the third of three vessels of this name owned by
the Hamburg-America Line, was built by J & G Thomson, Glasgow (yard #188),
and was launched on 13 September 1882" etc
I believe that you are going on the next info which is about the *Elbe*.
Perhaps not.
You need a different listing.

Re: this is weird...any ideas?
That would make sense. Now I just have to find the manifest for the Oct
1882 sailing.
Thanks.
