Locating Neices/Nephews?

Legg inn av Chap » 31 aug 2004 07:40:59

I am trying to locate the children of my deceased brother (his wife is
also deceased).

I have his last know address and burial info and a copy of his death
certificate which reflects one of his daughters as the informant.

Any suggestions as to how to proceed?

Thanks very much...I'm very new at this,

If you know if a church performed the burial service or which funeral home
did the internment, you could write a letter to them requesting their
assistance and have them forward your contact information to the parties
involved in the service.

The funeral home may also have an address for the daughter. However, she
may have moved since then.

Find a newspaper obituary and see if it says where the children lived.
Then, check the relevant telephone directory.

If all else fails, a "people finder" ad in the local newspaper might help.

Internet phone book?

Some of the "people finding" services can be "tricked" into giving away some of
the basic info (apparently by system design). Put in a name, and it may give
back a city, state, and [approximate] age. With that, searching in the phone
books narrowed by that location information could be more precise.

As long as they don't have overly common names like "John Smith," the usual
search engines may work also.

Agreed. I'd add to that, the lawyer who handled his estate (depending on

which country we're talking about, the will may or may not be available)
might be willing to pass letters on, if not to hand out addresses. Also,
it's possible that the neighbours of his last home might know - or the
current occupants might have been forwarding mail to someone (that might be
a way to identify the lawyer). Does the burial info include the name of the
undertakers? They must have dealt with a member of the family.
