Brickwall based in Puerto Rico

Legg inn av S. Sprouse » 27 aug 2004 06:36:54

Hello.

I was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem based in Puerto Rico.

My aunt was Elena Pagan. She was born 4-13-1945 supposeably in San Juan,
but definitely in Puerto Rico.
She died 1-1-1978 in Tyler, Smith County, Texas. On her death certificate
it lists her parents as Jose Vega Pagan and Maria as mom.

She was hit by a drunk driver coming home from a new year's eve party.

My uncle (her husband) was Caswell Carter. He was born 2-10-1942 in
Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas. He died 9-13-1990 in Shreveport, Caddo
Parish, Louisiana in the VA Hospital of brain cancer.

They left children (my cousins):
Cheney b.1966, Devlin b. 1967, Shane b.1968, Letha b. 1970, and Margarita b.
1974.

Letha and Margarita and I have tried to find out more information by calling
Puerto Rico records offices and no one will help us. Margarita has even
went to Puerto Rico trying to find out information and no one is willing to
help her. THey are continually told that they must know the death date of
Elena's parents before they can get any more information. But how can you
get the death dates if you don't ever get to see any of the information??
What they have received, all the valuable information has been blacked out,
like it is some top secret FBI document..... We know that they are deceased
by now in 2004.

When Elena died, at her funeral, (I was too young to remember) a brother and
a sister of hers or some other combination were suppose to have come to the
funeral. I believe that her father had already died by this time, but her
mom possibly was still alive.

I do not know if anyone lives in Puerto Rico or not, but I was wondering if
anyone knew of any other ways to try to find out more of this information.

Thank you for any help or ideas any of you may be able to offer.

Have you looked at Elena's obituary? It might mention her parents or
siblings and where they were living at the time. Also look for a newspaper
account of the accident. Sometimes family information is included there.

I looked for Jose Pagan in the 1930 Puerto Rico census. There are a bunch of
men and boys with that name. If Eleana was from San Juan you might check to
see if there was an obituary published there when she died. If she still had
family there then that's a possibility.

Your best chance of getting more info is to track down those siblings or
their descendants.

Since Puerto Rico is part of the US there won't be any immigration records.
