(Jon) Kristian Bauge, født 1848 i Skånevik, død 1914 i Bergen
Bolette Marie Jørgensdatter, født 1851 i Haugesund, død 1937 i Bergen.
Linken her er
http://digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/webcen ... mn=EMIBERG
Takk!

Re: Hjalmar Bauge (f. 1884) til Oregon i 1903. Hvor ble han
Hei Arne!
In the 1920 San Diego, CA census I find the following:
Jalmir Bauge, age 35 immigrated 1902, married to Hilma age 34 (she immigrated 1901).
They have 2 children Paul age 10 and Vernon age 1 year, 10 months.
"Jalmir" is a laborer...some sort of mill (sheet? mill).

Hilma is from Finland...she speaks Swedish. Hilma's parents are from Finland.

Took another look at the 1920 census...
The son, Paul, was born in Oregon so the family
should be in Oregon? around 1910...(I was not able to find the family in 1910)
and the son, Vernon, was born in Indiana!

Hei Patty!
Seems to me this might be the Hjalmar I'm looking for:
Leaving Bergen in 1903 and then in 1908, according to Norwegian sources. Then living in Oregon and Indiana, before settling with his wife in California in 1920 or before.
Thanks a lot for your assistance, Patty, and have a nice day!

Hei Arne!
In the SSDI I find:
Vernon Bauge, b. April 13, 1918
d. August, 1970
His SS# was issued in Oregon...so I wonder if the family went back to Oregon some time after the 1920 census.

Re: Hjalmar Bauge (f. 1884) til Oregon i 1903. Hvor ble han
Thanks once again, Patty. You have been VERY helpful!
Leaving Norway in 1903, Hjalmar was a tinsmith, like his father. But I can imagine the immigrants had to take whatever work they could find, and maybe even move from state to state, not finding jobs, maybe like we've read about in American 1930-year litterature.
Once again, thanks, and have a nice day!

Re: Hjalmar Bauge (f. 1884) til Oregon i 1903. Hvor ble han
According to the information above, and from other sources, Hjalmar and Hilma had their first son Paul in Oregon in 1920, and their second son Vernon, who also had a second first name (Christian), in Indiana in 1918. Furthermore, they were living in San Diego, California in 1920. As far as I know now, Hilma died in Oregon in 1926 and Paul in 1939, also in Oregon. As mentioned above, Vernon (Christian) died in 1970, indicating that the family stayed in Oregon after returning, probably from California, before Hilma died.
Hilma's last address, as far as I know, was Clackamas, Oregon, USA.
What I do not know, but should like to know, is when and where HJALMAR died. I have reason to believe that he died BEFORE his wife Hilma. This is what I assume, because in handwritten Norwegian sources it is said that Hjalmar's brother died, no children, 13th of May 1925. According to the information given to the authorities, Hjalmar was already dead by then, that is: Before this date. And my guess will be that his address, when died, was the same as for Hilma, that is: Clackamas, Oregon, USA.
I feel sure that Hjalmar left Norway, age 19, hoping for a better life, but the information I have so far, indicates that his life may not have been as good as he had hoped it to be.
And - as said above - I would still like to know when and where he died...

Re: Hjalmar Bauge (f. 1884) til Oregon i 1903. Hvor ble han
Thanks Margit.
It seems clear now that Hjalmar died in California, and that the family returned to Oregon after his death. And then his wife died after arriving there with the children, in 1926.
I assume the children, age 16 and 8, must have been taken care of by someone else after their mother died, and maybe someday I will learn more about their life in Oregon.
The information is very useful to me, and once again I realize that life must have been tough for the people emigrating to The United States, hoping for a better life there.
Once again, thanks, Margit, and have a nice day.

Hi Hanne Line and Margit,
It seems to me that Vernon had at least one son (Paul). The information above is very accurate, and will make it possible for me to get in touch with someone who can tell me more about my relatives in The United States.
Thanks to both of you for your assistance so far, and have a nice day.
