According to Robert A. Jordan's book, Jordan Journal : History of the
George and Arthur Jordan Families of Virginia, North Carolina, Indiana,
from 1634, there were the following Jordan families in colonial Virginia
during the 1st cenury or so after the initial settlement in 1607:

1. George -- Arthur -- Fortune -- William -- Mary (Surry Co.). This was
the family which married into the Floods and the Brownes of Four Mile
Tree. This is, incidentally, also the family from which the author --
and I -- are descended.

2. Thomas Jordan and Margaret Brasseur of Nansemomnd Co. (the Quakers).
Often connected (by researchers) to Samuel Jordan and his 2nd wife,
Cecily Bailey, but this is not yet proven, IIRC.

3. Richard (Isle of Wight & Surry), m. Alice ________. Sons Richard (m.
Elizabeth Reynolds) and John (m. Jane _____).

4. William (Northampton Co.); will (dated 1662) names wife Dorothy and
daughter Elizabeth (who is said to have married John Shephard.

Most of the above (#2-4) are summarized in an appendix with minimal
references to primary sources, so these broad groupings should be
regarded as outlines for further research more than as any sort of "final
word" on the issues. The author does mention -- in passing -- the
possibilities that # 2 - 3 may have been two branches of the same family,
and that # 1 and # 4 belong together, but he doesn't do much more than
that.

My impression is that the other Jordans were included mainly for purposes
of comparison with #1, the book's real focus.

Bingo!

These Virginia, et al., Jordans are certainly not all sifted out.

My focus is on #1 and #2 below.
