The new edition of the Oxford _Dictionary of National Biography_ is published
today, 60 Vols. and 54,922 entries of Brits (loosely defined), a mere snip at
£7,500 (about $13,125) that is under 14p (25c) an entry, even so and with the
£1,000 discount for early orders, I think I will be keeping my wallet (US
pocketbook or whatever) closed, as will, unfortunately, my local village library.

Or a mere 195 ukp per annum for the on-line edition. A few
bring-and-buy stalls would surely cover that?

Re: DNB
We've just received our set here in the library. I've already noticed
an error: the bio. of John-1 Nelson of New England makes him a
grandson maternally of Edmund and Elinor (Harvey) Temple (citing
Burke's _Peerage_, of all things).
I've enjoyed reading the updated sketches of my ancestors John Mason,
Rev. John Lathrop, William Brewster, and Rev. Henry Whitfield (the
identity of whose wife *is* known, by the way).
Samuel Desborough, who married Henry Whitfield's daughter, is given
his own entry (sub "Desborough"), while his brother John is found sub
"Disbrowe." Their mother is correctly stated to be Elizabeth
Marshall.
In connection with my (? interminable) postings on John Gifford, I
notice that the Thomas Purys (father and son) now have an entry.

There are some sample articles here:

(actually, there is going to be a free sample article per day, with a week's
worth available at any time).
No doubt this will be a fertile source of CP additions and corrections. The
sample article on Arthur, Prince of Wales (d. 1502) has him born 19
September 1486, as opposed to CP's 20 September. Unfortunately CP cites no
source, and the DNB just gives a list of sources (including CP) for the
whole article ...
