C.P. Addition: Death date of Margaret/Margery de Bohun, wife

Dear Newsgroup ~

As an update to my earlier posts on Margery (or Margaret) de Bohun, wife of
Thebaud (or Tebaud) de Verdun, 1st Lord Verdun, I wanted to share some
addtional information I located recently in a Year Book of Edward I. which
concerns Margery/Margaret's death date. Margery/Margaret de Bohun was last
known to be living in 1280. She appears to have predeceased her husband,
Thebaud, who is known to have died in 1309.

The following information is derived from a Year Book suit dated 1304
involving other parties. As the justices considered the suit in hand, two
of them, Toutheby and Howard, launched into a discussion regarding a prior
suit in the previous term which concerned lands held by Thebaud de Verdun
and his wife, Margaret. Justice Howard specifically states that Margaret,
wife of Thebaud de Verdun, was deceased at the time when the suit in the
previous term was considered. Below is the English translation of the
original French text.

Year Books of the Reign of King Edward the First, Years XXXIII-XXXIII (Roll
Series 31, no. 4) (1864): 24-31:

"Toutheby. In the last term Tebold de Verdoun had the aid in a similar
case.

Howard. That case was not similar, for the tenements were given to Tebold,
with Margaret his wife in franc-marriage, and the wife, who was the cause of
the gift, was dead; therefore, the aid was granted; but if the wife had
survived Tebold, would she had the aid? (intimating the negative)." END OF
QUOTE.

As we can see above, the Year Book record indicates that Margery/Margaret de
Bohun was deceased by 1304, which narrows the time frame of her death.
Further particulars on the Margery/Margaret de Bohun, her ancestry and
descendants can be found in my book, Plantagenet Ancestry. Please contact
me privately at my e-mail address below regarding details for ordering a
copy of the book.

Best always, Douglas Richardson, Salt Lake City, Utah
