The Falier family originated in Fano, from where they moved to Padua
and Venice. It produced some tribunes and three "dogi". The Faliers
lived in the parish of S. Vitale since they are recorded.
From San Vitale was Giacomo Falier, called "el Grando", elected in
1269 procurator of S. Marco. Probably the Faliers lived in the same
parish in 1084, when the church of San Vitale was erected by doge
Vitale Falier.
Vitale F. discovered in 1094 the body of St. Mark, and ordered the
consacration of the church to the Evangelist, in which atrium St Mark
was buried two years later.
Ordelafo F., son of Vitale, assumed the title of "doge" in 1102. He
was noted for his bravery at war: He helped Badouin, king of
Jerusalem, in Acre. Later on, he reacquired Zara for the Republic,
defeated the Paduans, and in 1117 heroicaly died in war against the
Hungarians.
Marino F., also a doge, was ofended in his honour by a young
patrician, but feeling not enough satisfied by the Consiglio, he
design a conspiracy to make himself absolute lord of Venice.
Discovered, he was beheaded on 7th April 1355. According to the
chronicles, he was an angry man: Before being "doge", while he was
podestà of Treviso, he mistreated the bishop for not starting on time
the procession of Corpus Domini. The main palace of the Faliers in the
parish of S. Vitale had until the 17th century a statue of Marino
without his head which reminded them of the treason of his ancestor.
The Faliers built some of the most beautiful churches of Venice, and
produced courageous militars, bishops and patriarchs.
The Falier Palace at San Vitale was fully renewed during the 17th and
18th centuries. Among its treasures it was a "cenotafio", esculpted by
Antonio Canova in honour of Giovanni Falier, one of his generous
mescenas.
The Faliers also had properties at San Pantaleone.

Notice that Ordelaf[o] = Faledr[i]o reversed. Faledrio
was the family's old name.

Thanks Francisco. You're right.

And that's why the Ordelaffi family of Forli' claimed to be a branch
of the Falier (Venetian patrices).

Regards,

Esteban
