I have a copy of RD500. Recently, I noticed in the NEHGS newsletter that
Edward Raynsford's royal descent is presented differently in RD600.
Are the changes significant enough to merit another purchase? Would anyone
be willing to summarize the key change(s)? I am curious to know if there
are any updates on the following research topic which I posted back in 2000.
Alice Giffard, wife of Sir John Anne, was the daughter of Sir John Giffard.
In "The Royal Descents of 500 Immigrants...," Gary Boyd Roberts presented
Lucy de Morteyn as Alice's mother with the following caveat:
"(maternity uncertain -- possibly by Sir John's second wife, Alice de
Montfort, a likely illegitimate daughter, by Lora Astley, of Peter [or
Piers] de Montfort, 3rd Baron Montfort...." (Page 438)
Roberts concluded the royal descent of Edward-1 Raynsford with the following
statement: "A monograph on Alice (Giffard) Anne is much needed."
In the years since "Royal Descents" was published, has anyone conclusively
determined the maternity of Alice (GIFFARD) ANNE and/or composed a monograph
in response to Roberts' lament?
Thanks for your help,

Perry,
What this means is, since the publication of Richardson's article which
appears to rehabilitate this theory on the identity and marriage of
Eleanor Hungerford, the maternity of Alice Giffard, wife of Sir John
Anne became a moot point, since either of her possible royal descents
are superseded (in Gary's organizing logic) by the Hungerford
connections. I'm not aware of further research on that particular
question.

Doug:
Thank you for your reply. I should have thought to mention in my prior
posting that I also own a copy of "Plantagenet Ancestry..." by Faris.
Apparently RD600 does not provide any "new" information on Edward
Raynsford's royal ancestry.
