I wrote, back on 13-Oct-2003:

"Luckily the huge sum of f1,000 did not apply to her staying
unmarried,
for on 5 Nov. 1427, she was pardoned f100 (or paid f100 for the pardon
- it's not clear) for marrying William Cressoner."

There is an interesting addendum to the published IPMs of Richard,
Lord Scrope of Bolton, that shows his widow was married to Cressoner
by May 1421, a mere 8 months after Lord Scrope's death.

"745 Writ, dedimus potestatem, to the prior of Ely, to receive the
oath of Margaret widow of Richard le Scrop of Castle Bolton, knight,
that she was not married without royal licence and to make return by
charter. 4 May 1421.
Return by Edmund, prior of Ely, that on 24 June at his manor of
Coveney Margaret swore an oath in the vernacular that she was married
with royal licence. Ely, 26 June.
C 138/56, no. 27."

Perhaps it was due to the oath above that she was pardoned the fine
six years later.
